to want the first shower? DH clearly thinks so...

We have an ancient hot water tank and a shonky shower. It takes a good hour for the water to get hot enough for a shower, and very long showers are out as the hot water runs out.

We were a bit zombiefied this morning, having gotten to sleep around 3am. I was getting breakfast for the DCs at 9am and put the hot water on, intending to have a shower at tennish. Instead fell asleep again and was woken by Dh at 11.30 - he'd only just woken up too.

We had to leave at 1pm to see my aunt and cousins. DH went and turned on the shower. I scuttled into the bathroom and asked if I could go first as I needed to wash my hair, dry my hair and do my makeup and I thought I should do my shower first as I couldn't do any of that without and even if DH just had a shortish shower, if I got in right after chances would be the hot water would run out during (at the conditioner stage for example, urgh), and I couldn't wait an hour.

Whereas even if I had a long shower and used up all the hot water (DH just wanted a 'quick sluice'), he could wait an hour and have a quick one before we left.

DH clearly thought I was being unreasonable - he said he wanted a shower (and had turned it on - there wouldn't've been any hot water TO turn on if I hadn't turned it on at 9am), before he got dressed (I said he could just keep the dressing gown on for another hour), and if I wanted a shower first I should've gotten up before 11.30.

Admittedly I am not known for my faultless logic but was I being unreasonable?

No.

You could have been getting ready while he was showering. Makes perfect sense.

No, I always shower first, for the same reasons as you.

mayorquimby · 01/01/2011 20:53

yes. If you take longer in the shower then he can nip in quickly first and get ready rather than waiting for you if you take longer in the shower.

DH often makes me go in first if we are trying out as he knows I take longer ...
