of your children's Christmas presents on facebook is incredibly naff?
I mean why would you do that?
Why would you think that any of your friends are interested?
Dont get me wrong its lovely to see pics of kids opening them all excited on Christmas morning but who the hell wants to see a picture of a massive pile of presents?

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 18:01

well obviously some of my friends were - and thye looked and they "liked".....those that weren't interested just didn't look Confused

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 01/01/2011 18:05

ok I soooooo thought you meant bum piles
I was thinking who the fuck gets someone to take a pic of their piles....let alone posting them somewhere

bamboostalks · 01/01/2011 18:05

I was thinking you meant bum piles and thought that facebook has gotten totally mad if people are posting pics of their arses.

No opinion on present piles..although who could be bothered? I can barely get myself motivated to take photos of my children never mind random stuff.

bamboostalks · 01/01/2011 18:06

Cross post Trin!

wheresmejumper · 01/01/2011 18:06

God I thought this was going to be a disgusting thread about piles and people who take pics of them...need to learn to read the full sentence!!!

wheresmejumper · 01/01/2011 18:06

Ha x post!

backwardpossom · 01/01/2011 18:07

Well, I can kind of see the point if you lived away from family/friends who had bought said presents... I think YAB a bit U to be honest - why let it bother you?

stoppinchingthedummy · 01/01/2011 18:07

oh well im part of that "sad" clan i posted pics to fb - to show "santa" had been - i was excited what can i say Grin

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 01/01/2011 18:07

lol i wasn't the only one

TheLittleRaccoon · 01/01/2011 18:07

Why would anyone think that anyone would be interested in any of their pictures? Clearly the photographer found it interesting enough to take a picture of. I'd rather look at a lovely colourful pile of presents - and imagine how thrilled the child in question would be to come down and see it on Christmas morning - than endless dull pictures of someone's holiday.

"Me on the beach... DH on the beach... DS on the beach... DS and DH on the beach... DS and me on the beach... a small pile of shells on the beach... DS pointing proudly at a small pile of shells on the beach..." etc blah.

HarkTheTragicalyHipHeraldAngel · 01/01/2011 18:10

I thought it was about piles too! Quite glad it isn't Grin

I couldn't really give a toss if people put pictures up of their presents.

Just don't look if you are not interested!

curlymama · 01/01/2011 18:10

I thought bum piles too!

But piles of presents - don't see the problem. I'd be quite up for looking at pictures of my friends houses with all the presents piled round the tree just after santa has been and before the kids tore into them.

Only reason I can see for finding it annoying enought to post about is if you were jealous. Especially if they have just uploaded loads of Christmas pictures and that just happens to be one of them.

Maybe they have family on there that would like to see.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 18:11

actually there was a point to my picutres this year - as the pile really was massive - thanks to MN (and a large % of my FB friends are MNers)

spidookly · 01/01/2011 18:13

It's so crass.

Even the way people on mn talk about "piles" of presents is so tacky.

Presents do not come in piles in nice families.

I'd rather hear people talking about their arse piles, or see pictures of same, than have to hear about people showing off about how they measure their love for their children in material gifts.

compo · 01/01/2011 18:14

I sort of see where you're coming from
it can look a bit boastful
a friend put pictures of her Xmas up and her lounge floor was literally covered in massive boxes of unopenrd toys - about ten times more than I got my kids and I did think 'ooh get you' but maybe I'm bitter Grin

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 18:17

spidookly - what they only get one present each in a "nice family" then?

as if they have 2 or more presents it's going to be a pile

tingletangle · 01/01/2011 18:20

Children do not need piles of presents.

curlymama · 01/01/2011 18:20

Right, so my dc's had a pile of presents because of the number of freinds and family they have, and the fact that some of the plastic tut they wanted is cheap enough that you can by more than one thing. That makes us not a nice family then?

What a horrible thing to say. Hmm

JemimaMop · 01/01/2011 18:21

I have noticed that several of my friends on FB have posted pictures of their DC opening presents, which is fair enough as it is a lovely moment. However a disproportionate number of the photos are of the DC opening a Wii/Laptop/X-box/other expensive present. Not many of them opening a Lego annual or a selection box... Grin

TheMonster · 01/01/2011 18:22

Children love piles of presents.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 18:23

you haven't seen my photos then Jemima Xmas Grin

I'm intrigued by this "children don't need piles of presents" thing.

So what - each child only had one present under the tree to open? All presents from family and friends are banned or what??

shoshe · 01/01/2011 18:25

A friend was broken into Christmas night everything from under the tree went, one of the things the Police asked was had she put photos of the presents on the Internet, as thieves will often trawl their area and then target them.

I wont put anything like that on FB.

tingletangle · 01/01/2011 18:26

My dd had a present from us and a present from her grandma . Two presents do not make a pile and she was perfectly happy . We have asked that noone else gives presents.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 18:27

on that note - careful where you've put any boxes/packaging from presents as well - we once had a hifi and TV knicked (when I was a kid) and they were almost certainly "told" about our gifts from the empty boxes in the recycling out the front.

tingletangle · 01/01/2011 18:29

I have a friend who is on my fb who never posts about anything other than stuff she buys. She is actually a lovely person bug gves the impression that her life is nothing more than endless pointless consumption. She also photographed the piles of presents.
