To think it is a bit early for Easter merchandise to be in the shops?

Went into Tesco on Boxing Day and they have a section about 6ft x 4ft crammed full of Mini Eggs, Creme Eggs etc. Couldn't they wait till New Year at least?

what???!!!

there should be chocolate hearts everywhere first, well before the eggs!

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 29/12/2010 22:27

Tis true, creme eggs have appeared round here too.

A1980 · 29/12/2010 23:04

It happens every year. It comes out even before all the nauseating valentine's stuff.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 29/12/2010 23:07

I don't get why this is a problem. The shops are also full of strawberries and asparagus - because consumers demand it. Someone is buying the blasted eggs or they wouldn't give up valuable shelf space to them.

I don't get how we as a society can demand instant access to anything we can dream up, 24 hours a day, and then get upset because the retailers aren't sticking to some unwritten rule about holiday seasons. FWIW I'm much more upset about the strawberries Xmas Grin

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 30/12/2010 00:31

I'll tell you who's buying the blasted creme eggs. DD2 is, that's who Xmas Angry

When I worked for Woolies we got Easter Eggs in stock in November and had to put them on display after the shop closed on Christmas Eve, ready for Boxing Day. It's crazy!

igetmorelovefromthecat · 30/12/2010 01:14

Creme Eggs have not only appeared in my local shop, they are nearly sold out! There were only 3 rolling around in the cardboard box on the counter when I went in there earlier.

52p for a Creme Egg though! What is happening to the world?

ChippingIn · 30/12/2010 01:17

You are shitting me???

Sorry - but that's what I thought when I read your Thread title.

FGS I was at friends at Christmas and we were talking about their being NOTHING in the large Tesco near us by Christmas Eve morning - we JOKED that they would be putting Easter Eggs in the gap before New Year.... Fucking hell's teeth.

TiredofTinsel · 30/12/2010 08:12

I think it's a shame because thought I love Easter eggs I haven't stopped enjoying Christmas cake yet. Why do the shops have to run everything together?

YABU it is never to early for a creme egg!! Or better still a lindor egg! Mmmmm wish they sold eggs all year round.

Seriously though, it is quite ridiculous! They should start selling them in march given that Easter is layer this year. Who on earth buys Easter eggs( big ones, not mini eggs) in January?
Own up!

Katisha · 30/12/2010 09:56

Are people actually clanouring for the creme eggs though? If they weren't there, would we be demanding to see the manager? I doubt there is actually a demand.
The shops just want to get the stuff out on the shelves and thus create a demand - people see it and buy it. But they probably weren't looking for it.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 30/12/2010 10:09

YANBU I popped into Morrisons last new years eve and they had a full aisle of easter stuff.
I was more interested in booze and nibbles.

FrozenFlowers · 30/12/2010 10:14

My local co-op had a small Easter display on December 23rd! They have expanded it now that Christmas is "over".

swanandduck · 30/12/2010 10:21

It does my head in the way shops are constantly pushing the next event or season at us. No doubt the summer dresses and barbecue equipment will be on prominent display in a couple of weeks and then, when people might actually need these things they will be whipped away so that the 'back to school' stuff can get a bit of space and then, when it's time to kit the kids out for the new school year, it will be all halloween stuff and then when you want to buy the kids a halloween mask there will be nothing but tinsel and Christmas cards on sale and then.........
