To be jealous of those who can have shopping delivered?

Milngavie · 29/12/2010 21:53

We live in the sticks and don't have the choice of having shopping delivered. We have two supermarkets but both are tiny so shopping at this time of year is a nightmare.

How I wish I could get my shopping online [jealous]. Never mind that I can see one shop from my back garden Grin.

I assume you've typed your postcode inot the Asda/Tesco/Ocado websites to see if they would deliver? You never know..

readywithwellies · 29/12/2010 22:36

Umm, YABU, you must have known the shop situation prior to moving to this location (bar being a live in caretaker or somthing?)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/12/2010 22:38

If you live where your name suggests then surely Tesco will deliver, however, I guess you don't Grin

FeelingOld · 29/12/2010 22:45

Have you tried putting your postcode in??

I live in a village near a small market town and My sainsburys shop comes from a main town 25 miles away from where I live and my mum has tescos which is from another main town about 18 miles away.

meltedmarsbars · 29/12/2010 22:48

I have a problems with deliveries too - they can't find us.

I put directions on the info part and my mobile no, the drivers then ring me to find out which dirt track to risk their vans on!

However, as other poster pointed out, you don't have to live so rural!

Milngavie · 29/12/2010 22:48

I don't live in Milngavie, no Smile.

No one delivers here, Asda is 200 miles away!

Yes I knew about the shops when we came here and most if the time it's fine but now and again I'd love to be able to do an online shop. [novelty value emoticon].

I used to feel like that too when I lived in the Highlands nobody delivered to us where we were either.

Now I live in the city I do find it a little overrated and still go to the supermarket myself anyway so honestly the grass is not always greener. Xmas Grin

TrillianAstra · 29/12/2010 22:52

You should be jealous, it is wonderful.

Sorry, but it is.

FunnysInTheGarden · 29/12/2010 22:53

YANBU. We live in the CI stix and online shopping has only just become available via a local wholesaler. Tis bliss to get all your water, tonic, cat food etc delivered. Even thought when you order certain stuff ie chorizo and pate it comes in bulk!

TrillianAstra · 29/12/2010 22:53

Well technically you are envious not jealous. But still.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 29/12/2010 22:54

YANBU! I am soo grateful for online shopping. I hate supermarkets. I hate queues. I hate wandering around the aisles, only to realise I have missed something I needed and have to go back. I hate not knowing how much it will be before I go to pay. I hate having to take the children and tell them "no, you can't have that" every two minutes, then abandon shop to take one or other of them to the toilet halfway through!

A couple of weeks of snow/ no deliveries has made me so grateful that I can sit with a glass of wine when the kids are in bed, happily clicking. I can run to see if I do actually need washing powder/ loo rolls/ marmalade before clicking it. And, if it's going to cost too much at the end, I can trawl my basket and put things back with a click of the mouse. Bliss!

And then, even better, a lovely chap(esse) comes to my door, and brings it straight into my kitchen. I feel spoilt. Bad luck, OP!

earwicga · 29/12/2010 22:55

YANBU to be jealous. TrillianAstra is spot on. Sorry.

I was very happy when my supermarkets started doing deliveries in my area.

earwicga · 29/12/2010 22:56

Ha ha - not 'my' supermarkets obviously but 'the' supermarkets.

TrillianAstra · 29/12/2010 23:06

All the things that jooly said

Do we need pasta?

It's on special offer!

Is there space in the cupboard?

Shall we get normal or wholewheat?

Is there space in the budget for some Parmesan to go on top?

All of these questions and other similar questions are much more easily answered when you arson your house.

Snigger- iPhone autocorrect- meant to say when you are in your house
Not when you arson your house :o

earwicga · 29/12/2010 23:11

meltedmarsbars - I have that as well. They phone me and don't know where they are and ask for directions. Idiots. Then I have to ask questions so I can work out where they are. Then they don't listen properly, say yes, and duly drive straight past. Then I see them stop and try to get signal, then (possibly) remember that I said there is no signal where I live. Then they drive back to where there was signal and phone me again, and I give them the same very clear directions and they drive to my house. Not every time obviously, sometimes the delivery drivers bother to listen.

christmaswishes · 30/12/2010 00:27

ner ner ner ner we have it :) only joking it must be awkward with no online shopping. I hate going to the massive supermarkets to do a shop, the smaller ones arent too bad.

Milngavie · 30/12/2010 10:42

Glad to see you are taking joy in my pain Grin.

Trillian you are right, I am more envious than jealous.

I have to brave the shoP today too...

southeastastra · 30/12/2010 10:44

i like going to the shop myself and choosing my own items, online shopping to me seems like something to look forward to in old age

JeezyPeeps · 30/12/2010 10:49

YANBU - I feel your pain. I wonder if you live near me! We have a Tesco and a Co-op but the nearest Asda is overseas!

usualsuspect · 30/12/2010 10:52

I hate online supermarket shopping ..I would much rather wander around the shop and see whats been reduced on offer

Janos · 30/12/2010 11:01

YANBU, it's a life saver for me (working single parent who doesn't drive therefore time at a premium) and I can't understand why people don't use it more!

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/12/2010 11:04

It is not that great. It can be helpful, but I am sure there are many plus sides to where you live so don't worry about it :)
