When I have my son and his friend here(son aged 10, other child eleven) and leave them to it?
They are just in the house, watching DVDs, my partner is out tonight, and I am knackered.
It's a small bungalow - I can hear everything, and if something goes wrong - they can wake me up - right?

Do I really have to sit up to supervise?

God, no.

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:03

Thanks moondog - planning bubble bath and bed now! Didn't take much to persuade me did it?!

Not sure I would be too happy if my child went to a friends house and the mother just left them to it tbh.

If you are going to be watching tv or reading fine, but not if you are going to sleep.

compo · 29/12/2010 20:05

do you always go to bed at 8.30pm?
you could read in bed and lsten out for them
do you want said friend telling all ds' mates his mum goes to bed at 8.30pm Grin

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:06

Oh dear! charliesmommy has changed my mind again! It is a two bedroom bungalow, they are 10 and eleven - not going anywhere - I thought it would be OK? I will be in the next room?

Well - I just want to get away from Robin Hood DVD and thought I could have a bath and retire to bed - might fall asleep though - am knackered after looking after baby niece all afternoon! (Mummies who look after tinies are very patient - i had forgotten how tiring it was!)

When me and my friends were that age we were up way later than any parents. We used to play tickle on backs, make up ghost stories with the torch, play truth or dare, and on occassion steal a little bit of ice cream from the freezer.

We used to be up until about 2am thats what sleepovers are about!

MsKLo · 29/12/2010 20:12

I sympathise but I would nit be comfortable leaving them and sleeping - you might fall into deep sleep! What time will they sleep?

If it's any consolation, I have two under 3 who keep me awake all bloomin' night so at least when you do sleep tonight you will sleep well! Lol

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:14

They do seem to be tucked up on the sofa watching a DVD and i would like to read my book and fall asleep! They can't really come to any harm?

OP posts:
snowflake69 · 29/12/2010 20:16

Go to sleep! As I said we used to be quiet and be up when our parents used to think we were asleep on sleepovers. I used to go to ones with 6 girls at them and we never came to any harm. They will just be playing innocent games and having a laugh. Stop stressing Smile

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:17

I phoned his mum - mother of six - she said she was fine with them watching dvds as long as they do, and lock the doors! maybe I am still PFB!!

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:22

Oh! I missed your post snowflake - I have just overheard them saying - "let's get the duvet out - we can sleep in here" (sitting room) I think will be OK to leave them alone?

classydiva · 29/12/2010 20:23

the last thing they want is you constantly up their assess. Make sure they have snacks and drink and let them get on with it, they aren't babies.

charliesmommy · 29/12/2010 20:25

make sure the internet is logged off.. ;)

carrotcake29 · 29/12/2010 20:25

You are definitely fine to leave them alone! Make sure all the doors are locked, tell them not to use the kettle/ cooker etc, and to settle down to sleep before midnight. No different to them being upstairs in a bedroom and you watching tele downstairs. I am sure you would wake if they needed you.

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:26

No - I will literally be away from them by a wall if I go to bed - also they have snacks aplenty - think I can leave them alone really?
We generally let them play out without adult supervision in the daytime in this village - just I feel more responsible after dark!

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:33

I think so - nice bubble bath - and "If you set the house on fire - I am not cross - wake me up!!"

Catnao · 29/12/2010 20:39
