Following on from the Teapot thread, since I am a nosey bovine and own Xmas was a pressie free zone - would love to hear what everyone received yesterday :)

Well, I am literally speechless. An EMPTY perfume bottle? And don't care if you love Marmite more than life itself, a normal container (even if it is squeezy) is not a suitable christmas present imo.

Tsk, well, if he is soon to be an ex then at least this will be one element you won't have to put up with again.

I changed my mind. My best gift was a massive Starbucks mug I stole on Friday.

UNgrateful for the Marmite, yes Ma'am. The silly string is just tacky. I'd leave it overnight to freeze outside, then stab him with it in the morning :o

BibiBlocksberg · 26/12/2010 23:49

Yes, you're incredibly ungrateful (NOT)

For heavens sake, how old is he? Decorate your windows with it indeed.

What did he say when you suggested he put it around his own windows?

trixymalixy · 26/12/2010 23:51

I'd have suggested he did something a bit ruder than that with them!! WTF was he thinking? And what was his explanation for the empty perfume bottle?

The low

The PS3 broke after less than 24 hours of use.

Bah humbug.

ChocDee · 27/12/2010 06:14

My MIL gave me a Stars and Stripes Beanie Baby. Sigh...
Cuddly toys are for children - NOT adults!!!

She tries really really hard to turn me American (America gives me eczema and depression ;) ).

In the past she has given me American Flag place mats, "God Bless America" wind chime, America is super great note books galore, etc etc

She did well this year - her list of random gift giving is truly legendary!!

PlentyOfParsnips · 27/12/2010 07:58

Highs -

DP got me a book and permission to splurge £50 on Amazon

DD got me a book of really bad taste crochet projects. We spent a happy hour together giggling at the pictures and I have promised to make her the high-necked rainbow ruffle collar with wavy puff stitch trim.

Lows -

DS got me some really horrible looking pound shop bubble bath and scented candles. It's sort of puce coloured and smells like bloo loo. I'm a bit annoyed because I gave him £2.50 per family present and I suspect he's used a lump of this to subsidise friends' presents - he's supposed to save for those himself.

Dsis got everybody a big fluffy bath towel each which sounds nice except mine is lime green and makes me look really ill.

Most random -

Dmum got me a huge box of old fashioned 60W lightbulbs. She was very pleased with herself for having sourced them - she sent off for them specially Xmas Confused

PlentyOfParsnips · 27/12/2010 08:03

GrizzlyMacDuff · 27/12/2010 08:06

girlsyearapart · 27/12/2010 08:37

Lows- a box of Turkish delight from Dh. I hate the stuff. When I said that his reply was 'oh I knew it was either you or the lodger that liked it and after I bought it I remembered it was him that likes it and you that doesn't ..'
Also a calendar with no room to write anything on. Asked for a calendar with only specification that I need space to write on.. Dh is not good at present buying.

Highs- spa day for me and my sister from our parents lovely framed photos of my late great aunt from my sister and framed photos of dd3 from the aforementioned lodger

northernrock · 27/12/2010 08:50

My DB and SIL outdid the truly horrendous (brown, flecked acrylic, pubic style fur round the cuffs) cardigan they gave me last year.

Oh Yes.

This year I received shaggy fur legwarmers.

I can't decide if they think my dress sense is really that awful, or if they just hate me?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 27/12/2010 11:40

oh dear. Just unwrapped the pjs dh got for me - they are child sized. oops. As the other thing he got me was a haynes manual for the starship enterprise perhaps I should take this as a compliment that he still sees me as youthful Hmm

to be fair, the snow meant he couldnt get beyond our rather poxy town centre. I think he must have just panicked.

GandalfyCarawak · 27/12/2010 11:54

Am Shock at how much you lot got!

An oven thermometer (I had asked for it!)
A food tray.
A scarf.

I am so jealous of whoever got a red kitchenaid!

Zondra · 27/12/2010 13:37

Lovely, lovely dh gave me a leopard-print "Hepburn" bag from Aspinal.
'Tis a thing of great, great beauty!

No rubbishy pressies at all, very lucky here.

trixymalixy · 27/12/2010 23:10

Didn't think I had had any lows, but MIL got me a minging red Cardigan and then followed it up with the gem that she'd got me the size bigger than my SIL!!

rudolpherina · 27/12/2010 23:30

Got lots of nice things but couldnt believe when my sister handed me a envelope with details of a night in a really top hotel. She has dh and I booked in for this sunday night with babysitting as part of the surprise. It was such a lovely thought I cant wait!
