My dh gave me a cookbook (which I had asked for by name), a lush ball and a fucking teapot for Xmas. I had knitted him a jumper, and also given him a book and a bottle of whisky and other stuff. We are not short of money. Every time I look at the teapot I want to cry. AIBU?

OP, I get that you are upset about the teapot but maybe he really did think you would like it? Did you need one? I think men sometimes like buying useful gifts, as opposed to lovely but non essential stuff.

Last time my Dh bought me a present (and it wasn't yesterday!) it was an iron. The thing that upset me was that out of all the things he could have bought, he seemed to think I really wanted an iron. In fact he'd thought logically "What do we need?" "An iron" "Aha. Present!"

PlentyOfParsnips · 26/12/2010 15:55

My mum got me a massive box full of old-fashioned incandescent 60W lightbulbs. Xmas ConfusedXmas Grin

muminthemiddle · 26/12/2010 15:59

Depends on whether you like that sort of thing. Do you use a teapot. Or would dh use a teapot or are you an ornament sort of person.

TheFeministParent · 26/12/2010 16:05

I got zero from DH or the DCS.

moocowmrs · 26/12/2010 16:05

I got a tea pot, tis lovely and I am very happy !

XmascarolOfFact · 26/12/2010 16:33

I got DP a toast rack, a raincoat and a book. Grin He loves them though!

YABU, if there's something you really want and don't get, get it in the sales after Christmas. I'm sure the hand-knitted jumper is beautiful and you put lots of hours and love into it, but it is the archetypal 'shit present' really, isn't it? (I don't mean to be nasty about the jumper which I'm sure is gorgeous!)

shinyshoesandglitterypoos · 26/12/2010 16:36

I really wanted and got a teapot. Grin

and a harp Hmm

Ladyanonymous · 26/12/2010 16:39

Ahhhhh....this thread is making me feel soooo much better.

Problem is I got rather pissed and let OH know EXACTLY what I thought of his present apparently.

Feel very ashamed today esp as he was so sweet about it.... Blush

NL3 · 26/12/2010 16:41

I got a teapot - I was delighted!

SantasENormaSnob · 26/12/2010 19:18

Tbh I think the knitted jumper is a worse present than a teapot.

By miles.

lochnessmumster · 26/12/2010 19:59

Give me a teapot over a home knit jumper any day of the advent!
I'm sure you're a wonderfull knitter but... a home knit christmas jumper for a full grown man?
Sorry OP think you should have a cup of tea and a re-think for next year.

lochnessmumster · 26/12/2010 20:02

Just noticed PlentyOfParsnips post! HEE HEE! That has to be not only the worst but also the most random prezzie ever!

BelligerentYhoULE · 26/12/2010 20:03

YABU. Dp bought me a teapot because I had asked for one and he went out of his way to buy a pretty, old fashioned one that he thought I'd like. What's wrong with a teapot then?

SantosLHalper · 26/12/2010 20:05

I got a lovely Cath Kidston teapot off dh as well as other things and I LOVE it. So YABU. But you're allowed to BU if you didn't want a teapot!

SmokinSanta · 26/12/2010 20:12

I'd love one of those teapots for one, which sit on top of the cup? That would be a wonderful present!

I think YABU. You got 2 lovely little bits, and unless you are allergic to/never drink tea its a nice little present

BelligerentYhoULE · 26/12/2010 20:14

Mine is one of those, with a cup and saucer. Tbh I wanted a 'proper' teapot so but it's so pretty that I haven't the heart to tell him!

panettoinydog · 26/12/2010 20:17

well, what he got you sounds simila r to what you got him. Very homely and Good Life. So Maybe you have both inadvertently gone down the wrong path together.

Was he thrilled with his jumper?

panettoinydog · 26/12/2010 20:20

I am surprised at the number of people who got teapots. Must be a mn phenomemon

PatTheTurkeyer · 26/12/2010 20:23

DH got me matching oven gloves, cakes tins and a jug from Laura Ashley and I really heart them. He also got me some nice perfume and posh toiletries
However, I do not really use a teapot so I guess I would have been a bit [Hmm] if he had got me one. Do you really like tea, or are you not arsed about it? If its the latter then yes, its a bit strange.

On a separate note I did get a CK butter dish from my mother and I love it, what happened to the Xmas days when I used to be happy to recieve a bottle of vodka and a bit of lippy???

Sariah · 26/12/2010 20:40

I am just really surprised that so many people get teapots.

Hand knit jumper is way worse than a teapot unless you are a really good knitter and can do really cool designs.

Quattrocento · 26/12/2010 20:42

Lurvely choice of teapots

The georgian ones are £££ but the victorian ones are pretty nice.

I tell you, next birthday, I'm asking for a teapot!

expatinscotland · 26/12/2010 20:48

The only teapot I'd enjoy is a chocolate one.

Quattrocento · 26/12/2010 20:49

Yay, Expat! Happy Christmas. I'll get you a chocolate teapot if you want. Might you prefer a chocolate fireguard though?

expatinscotland · 26/12/2010 20:52

Oh, yes, please, a HUGE chocolate fireguard.

:)

Happy Christmas!

Lizbertnobacon · 26/12/2010 20:59

My mum got me a gorgeous tea pot for chistmas two years ago and I loved it. Then stupid dp broke the lid so its now a gorgeous spare change/car key holder!
