to think a teapot is a crap Xmas present

My dh gave me a cookbook (which I had asked for by name), a lush ball and a fucking teapot for Xmas. I had knitted him a jumper, and also given him a book and a bottle of whisky and other stuff. We are not short of money. Every time I look at the teapot I want to cry. AIBU?

Is it a nice teapot or bog standard steel?

NoahAndTheWhale · 26/12/2010 10:48

Did you like the other presents?

fluffywhitekittens · 26/12/2010 10:50

Depends.. My Dad got me a Denby teapot one year which I had asked for and I gave my friend a teapot and cups, saucers, milk jug this year.
My OH got me nothing at all :)

Triggles · 26/12/2010 10:51

Is it a nice teapot? Honestly, I was rhapsodising just the other day over a lovely little red teapot I saw in a catalogue that, while it would lovely horribly out of place in our not-red-kitchen, I would love to have. So if DH had bought me that teapot, I would have been thrilled. Grin

feedme · 26/12/2010 10:53

well, yes, it's a nice teapot. I just think I put so much thought into what I get and he does fuck all.

Equivalent sorts of things(?):
Jumper - teapot.

Whiskey -- lush ball
Cookbook -- his book.

What did you want him to get you? Are those the sorts of things he likes?

This thread reminded me to search for a new Denby teapot lid on Ebay, have been trying to source one for ages, I'd be delighted if DH had found one for me!

feedme · 26/12/2010 10:56

ps he gets a lush ball for everyone and I gave him the newspaper cutting with the details of the book. Obviously I'm a grasping bitch

I hope it isn't a shit present as that is what we have got DSD! A gorgeous Cath Kidston one with cups and saucers. She is 19 and she has just got her own place and loves tea so fingers crossed.

nymphadora · 26/12/2010 11:03

I think that in reddaisys scenarioit is good (19 year old nesting & wants to be grown up but the op is grown up & its not so much a treat.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 26/12/2010 11:07

I wouldn't be overjoyed with a teapot, tbh.

Apparently, my "main" present didn't arrive. The other present was an umbrella...

Still, since I didn't get him anything, I can't really complain!

SerendipitousHarlot · 26/12/2010 11:07

I would love a teapot, and personally see it as a really thoughtful present! It's not like a hoover, or an iron or something.

I think you're overreacting.

moondog · 26/12/2010 11:10

I have in the past, asked for a teapot and this year asked for an umbrella and have a very nice one.

I don;t really get stropping about presents. It's not like any of us are short of anything really. Furthermore, if i really want something, i go and get it mysefl.

ModreB · 26/12/2010 11:12

My 3 DS's clubbed together and got me an electric carving knife. I was chuffed to bits, just what I wanted.

tingletangle · 26/12/2010 11:12

I think yabu, if you really want something as moondog says go and get it yourself rather than relying on someone else.

or write a letter to santa and leave it on the worktop for him to see

I got a compost bin which I think beats the teapot anyday.

you could always start a collection!

Onetoomanycornettos · 26/12/2010 11:18

If it was only a teapot, and you don't like tea, fair enough to complain, but given the other gifts (and yours are nice but not earth-shaking really) I think it's fine.

missmiss · 26/12/2010 11:19

I asked for, and received, a Cath Kidston teapot for my birthday. I can see how, if you're not a teapot kind if person, getting one as a present might be a disappointment, but I don't think it's a shit present per se.

eatyourveg · 26/12/2010 11:21

ps I like my compost bin actually as well as the set of measuring spoons and a set of tea towels
yabvu its not a competition and you should not be so ungrateful.

JodiesMummy · 26/12/2010 11:23

I got a fucking book mark from DH.

NoahAndTheWhale · 26/12/2010 11:24

Knitting someone a jumper is a big investment though.

clam · 26/12/2010 11:29

It depends on the story behind it.
My main present from DH was a pair of gloves. Doesn't sound much, except that it was a highly overpriced expensive pair for skiing, softest leather, velvety-smooth innards, that I'd lusted after for a while but couldn't justify buying due to the price. Too decadent. He got them for me, bless him.

SerendipitousHarlot · 26/12/2010 11:30

Someone on another thread has told a story of her mother getting 2 wheels for 'her side of the car' once Grin Think yourself lucky!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 26/12/2010 11:33

I see your teapot and raise you a frying pan!

ACtually it was a bit of a joke present as we have needed a new one and I laughingly warned him that if he got me one for Xmas he would end up wearing it. So of course he had to get it!

He also got me a hand blender. Fair enough. I have commented on ones as we have been watching Australian Masterchef. However he got me one I already have!

He also got me a nice cookery book although not the one I wanted as it was sold out.

He also got me lots of crap from Tesco. A really horrible crappy shower gel and body lotion set that is making me itch just looking at it and putting me in a bad mood. I warned him not to get me anything from Tesco. He can't be bothered shopping anywhere else here which pisses me off.

Oh and I got a huge Lego Technic set! I love Lego, love doing the big sets. Don't like the Technic stuff though. Technic is boystuff.

tingletangle · 26/12/2010 11:35

That is a lot of presents for an adult!
