Also, DP is away as one of his friend's grown up children has died so he has gone to spend some time with his friend.

DD1 is with her dad.

DD2's ear exploded with pus yesterday and the poor baby is screaming with pain all day long, as she has been for about 5 days.

And this morning my cat bought a bird in (before I woke up), and killed it as slowly and messily as possible, all over the house. There are feathers everywhere and black blood all over the cream carpets.

I never knew birds had black blood.

I think you have to accept pressies will not turn up - at least then it will be a bonus if they do.

On the upside.....it appears your cat may have killed some sort of demon (they can tell the difference between them and birds....it's the black blood) - hence saving you from a Christmas of dooooom

I fdd1 is away and so is your dp and you dd2 is too young to care why not wait till everyone is back together and the presents have arrived.

We did something similar a couple of years ago and it was fine.
