to have a glass of wine when my BF dd is on ABs?

Just want to make it clear that I am not an alcoholic and I am fine with not having a drink, but really fancy a glass of wine! DD is almost 5 months and EBF. She has been unwell with a fluey type thing for a few days and then this morning she had pus literally dripping out of her earhole, took her to docs who diagnosed ear infection and prescribed ABs. She started them this afternoon.

So would quite like just one glass of wine but obviously won't if it's going to make her feel any worse or affect her ABs. Does anyone know?

As far as I am aware 1 glass of wine will do her no harm, it isn't enough to get into your milk. I am in no way an expert though (disclaimer alert!!!)

Gi girl, pour yourself a glass

backwardpossom · 22/12/2010 22:26

The amount of alcohol that would get into your BM is miniscule. YANBU.

I just started a thread a couple of days ago about drinking and breastfeeding my 10mnth old DS. Of 57 replies, not one said don't do it (which was a relief!). I was asking about drinking half a bottle of wine 6 hrs before feeding him. I don't think the fact your DD is antibiotics would make any difference, would you have a glass if she wasn't? If so then go for it. Breast feeding is tough, to think you have to give up one of lifes pleasures (ie booze!) to do it is another nail in the coffin for bfing. Well done on 5 months ebf, you deserve a glass of wine just for that!

Ah hello Scottish mummy, I do believe you were one of the many encouraging me to open the wine last night!

porcamiseria · 22/12/2010 22:38

Live the way you ran to the fridge!

Yep, bf is tough but good on you fir still going strong, my DD is still mad for breastmilk at fifteen months but I don't have the wine dilemma as I can't bloody stand the stuff

Love chocolate though! And tea!

Enjoy x

lillibet1 · 23/12/2010 15:49

in she is on metranidazol it might make her sick if not can't see it will do any harm

TrillianAstra · 23/12/2010 15:51

BF and a glass of wine - fine.

A glass of wine and antibiotics - nearly always fine (what is the name of the drug?)

scottishmummy · 23/12/2010 17:15

but op isnt taking ab,and one glass wine metabolised has minimum affect in her baby

TrillianAstra · 23/12/2010 17:32

Exactly, even if she were taking the ABs it owuld nearly always be fine, as it is her baby is probably on antibiotics thatdon't react with alcohol anyway, and will get only a tiny tiny amount of alcohol.
