To feel Charlie Dimmock is NOT an actress so shouldn't do panto?

I mean, lovely woman and all, everyone has to make a living. But I saw her on stage at the panto in Windsor (don't ask...) and she was just unable to act at all even by the level required for panto. She made two slightly ribald hortocultural jokes which did not even make the grandads laugh.
I mean, I don't blame her for taking the work, you can't blame anyone for taking a job like this if offered it, but she is genuinely taking work away from talented people who are able, experienced and need the work. A talented fairy god mother might have lifted the show a good deal.
No disrespect to her. But I don't try to get paid to do other people's gardening because I'm sh**e at gardening!

YABU. Its panto, not the RSC, they need celeb names to fill seats. She's hardly taking work off unknown RADA graduates that nobody's ever heard of. If it was Chekhov, you'd have a point.

PheasantPlucker · 22/12/2010 10:20

Had you never been to a panto before OP?
This is what happens in them.

NestaFiesta · 22/12/2010 14:20

Oh yes it IS!

We've got Tony Gordon from Corrie in ours. He's no better and he IS an actual actor.

NestaFiesta · 22/12/2010 14:27

I LOVE Tony Gordon- his right eyebrow has its own agent.

fedupwithdeployment · 22/12/2010 14:47

And I saw Linda Robson who was no great shakes (some of the unknowns were considerably better).

VinegarTinselTits · 22/12/2010 14:51

oh come on, its like trying to say KK shouldnt do iceland adverts

Panto is MADE for people like this

MatureUniStudent · 22/12/2010 15:27

I'd be more concerned about if Charlie Dimmock was wearing a bra or not than her
acting abilities. If ever, to my mind, there was a new law needed, it is a law that says women over 30 have to wear a bra in public. (sorry all you incredibly fit, tanned, non stretchmarked, able to put a bra on without having to roll them up into a ball first to get them in 30+yr olds)

"A talented fairy god mother might have lifted the show a good deal."

But by this point you have alrady paid. Her presence gets more tickets sold than someone with acting ability who isn't 'off the telly'.
