the oil has run out and i have nothing spare. i thought it would at least do me another 2 weeks. he most likely gets paid on friday. would i be UR to ask him tomorrow for an advance, so i could order the oil tomorrow or should i just wait til friday and most likely be without oil all over xmas? he is staying at his parents so had no bills apart from his phone and has his xmas shopping done.

Not unreasonable to ask, depends on him having spare cash though.

minipie · 21/12/2010 18:44

it's not unreasonable to ask, but he doesn't have to say yes. but if he wants your DC to be warm, it would be nice of him to oblige.

the problem is though that even if you do get the advance it will mean you have a long wait till the next instalment... there isn't anything else at all you could go without instead?

atswimtwolengths · 21/12/2010 18:45

I would ask him. It's unfair that the parent who takes care of the child on a day to day basis has to struggle to make ends meet when the other parent is financially OK. Christmas is an incredibly difficult time if you're broke - there are so many extra expenses. It would be unfair of him not to help you to keep your children warm.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 18:47

i don't physically have money to order it though. my account is empty. if the oil had lasted even til next week i would be fine becaus ei don't need to buy and shopping in or anything so teh account being empty wasn't concerning me as i knew teh maintenance was coming on friday or tehre abouts.

I read that maint was due in 2 weeks - if he would give you maint this fri, then yes I would ask now

arentfanny · 21/12/2010 18:48

I don't want to put a dampner on it but are you sure you will get an oil delivery? Our last one took 10 days to come.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 18:49

I'm nnot worrying about it being a long time before next payment because i can eek it out and also will receive my IS but teh IS alone isn't enough to order oil even if it does get paid in on friday.

Nothing wrong in asking - just don't get arsey with him, if he says he can't.

tribpot · 21/12/2010 18:49

He may have been paid early, so might not be a bother to him. A lot of firms do pay the month's salary a week early in December. It annoys me that they do as it makes January an excessively long month, but given the current weather this could be a good reason why I hope he has!

You can't be without oil over Xmas. No-one could have budgeted fuel for this long cold snap.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 18:50

really arentfanny?/ oh no. i was hoping that if i at least ordered it tomorrow it would be here on friday at latest. local ones are usually pretty snappy when you have run out. tehy can come next day but if i can't order til friday tehn they wont deliver on xmas day.

oh i wont get arsey. if he doesn't have it he can't give it. he couldn't have predicted this. I was just wondering if it was ok to ask.

Is there anyone you can borrow from?

I really don't like to think of anyone without heating over Christmas Xmas Sad

If you were my mate I'd lend you money - do you have any real life friends close by?

christmaswrapping · 21/12/2010 18:56

Then most definitely YADNBU to ask.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 18:58

no friends that would be in a position to lend that amount of money. just realised if he doesn't have it i can wait til friday (really hope he gets paid then) and get an emergency drum to do over xmas.

If he won't/can't, what about a crisis loan from the jobcentre? I think you're fine to ask, it's for them too, not 'just' you.

Truckulent · 21/12/2010 19:02

Is he ok or a bit of a knob?
If he's ok he should just give you the money.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 19:09

he usually pays up when reminded but isn't forthcoming with it. i don't think he would hold it off me til friday out of badness if he had it tomorrow.

Sob, plead ignorance, beg, been there done that and it usually works, even if it is just 200l at least that will get you through till next week.
