To give negative feedback on ebay

...if DCs present doesn't turn up in time. Ordered and paid on Tuesday last week, but despite the claim "usually posts within one day of payment" stuff wasn't posted until Friday. I'm happy to accept that the post is a problem right now, but less than happy that if they'd posted on Wednesday I'd have a much better chance of getting it. Have also checked recent feedback, and the seller has a +ve from the day after my stuff was supposedly posted (which implies to me it must have been dispatched before mine given current delivery times) from somebody who ordered more than a day after me.

BTW, before I get slated, it's far from their only present, but my mum want's me to get something for them from her, and it's the only really obvious option.

Do you need to ask?

A1980 · 21/12/2010 00:50

I would! Grin

notinbed · 21/12/2010 00:55

"Do you need to ask?"

Well yes. I'm not even totally sure what you're implying is the obvious answer!

I'd probably send them a message first to try and resolve, the other person may have paid extra eg for special delivery to guarantee next day delivery and it could have been posted same day as yours. I see where you are coming from with it, but tbh I would probably have got in touch with them before ordering to see how they could help me get present delivered in time - I think where it says usually posts within 1 day is something that they have set which appears every time they are selling something not exclusive to that auction so unless the seller has put on the item that they would post within 1 day of payment I'd personally put it down to a lesson learnt and think I should have checked when it would actually be posted. Sorry if this sounds mean, but I just think you left it fairly late to order without checking they could definately get item to you before Xmas, given Christmas post and weather etc.

If you post on Fridays, why don't you end auctions on Wednesday/Thursday? Confused

Sorry, I'm sure you have perfectly good reasons, just seems odd to me!

DontLetTinselDragOnTheFloor · 21/12/2010 03:43

Given the weather, it is not unlikely that they've posted as soon as they could. They may also have posted it within the one day but not got round to marking it dispatched, I've certainly dome that before. I think it would bema bit mean and unnecessary given the circumstances.

PenguinArmy · 21/12/2010 06:51

maybe they couldn't get out to post it

lucky1979 · 21/12/2010 07:29

I think that YABU if it says "usually" posts in 1 day. That's not a guarantee, that's a "I'll do my best" but maybe she's been snowed in? The other person could have ordered something small enough to fit in a A4 envelope in a letter box, while yours necessitated a trip to the post office that s/he couldn't manage.

Unless you contacted the seller beforehand and she promised that it would be posted on the Wednesday then I think in this weather it would be really bad etiquette to give her a negative. Leave a neutral if you absolutely must, but a negative is huge overreaction - it's not the seller's fault you left it so late in dreadful weather to order a present.

I don't understand why ppl get their knickers in a twist about ebay feedback. In giving feedback you are just expressing your opinion about the transaction. If you had a negative experience, leave negative feedback - simples.

All that stuff about contacting the seller is bollocks - call it as you see it

I was going to start a similar thread, my item has arrived but it took about 10 days. The listing was for 1st class post and to be posted within 3 days of payment.

When it arrived it had been posted 5 days after payment and 2nd class which cost half what I'd paid for postage.

I've emailed the seller and haven't left feedback yet, there might be a genuine reason for slow payment but no excuse for the postage.

I'm not complaining about the postal delays, I know thats not the sellers fault btw.

musicposy · 21/12/2010 09:22

I feel like this too. I ordered something on 5th December and it hasn't arrived. I contacted seller who was very nice and said they'd been told post had been stuck up north in the backlog and royal mail said allow 2 weeks. She said she'd send one special delivery if it hadn't arrived.

Well, 2 weeks is up and no sign. I contacted seller and no answer now. I'll try again messaging today. Sad

If it doesn't arrive by Christmas, though, I will leave negative feedback because I told her on 15th it hadn't come and nothing's been done yet. I've ordered plenty of other stuff since then in the post which has come.

I know the post has been bad but 5th December is bloody ridiculous!

NO NO NO. I am a seller too so I understand. There is no point to giving feedback unless it is an honest reflection of the transaction. Anything less than this is a disservice to other ebay users who rely on honest feedback with which to make their decisions.

There is clearly no point in pretending a transaction was super amazing when it wasn't

I don't think the OP should leave negative feedback. "Usually posts next day" isn't the same as "posts next day" in fact, I'd say 'usually' implies there are days when she won't post next day. Like days when the snow has been a joke.

scarletbegonia on the other hand should leave neg feedback for the second hand postage. THat's stealing.

maxybrown · 21/12/2010 09:31

No - it is not unreasonable to give it more time!! Everyone who is saying that this is.
I have JUST received stuff posted on 2nd Dec - one was from Boden and one from Ebay. But in the meantime I have had more recent stuff get through - so it means nothing to be honest! Seems the ealier posted stuff is the stuff that is "stuck" or held up. I posted loads of things and so did Dh a couple of weeks ago - all tracked and some not arrived yet, but I DID post them!!

festiveflashingmammaries · 21/12/2010 09:33

I don't think it is ebay that expect everything to have 5 stars .... it is just a result of people leaving inaccurate feedback

toddlerama · 21/12/2010 09:39

I always leave honest feedback. It isn't fair on other buyers to leave positive and then they are the next ones disappointed.

I am also a seller, and I bend over backwards to keep my 100% rating. If you are making any sort of reasonable income from eBay, a couple of vindictive negatives don't make any difference as they can't make up 1%. It's honest feedback that makes the system work! Of course, email and ask why, but if they explain and you don't feel that it is a valid excuse, you can quite rightly express that through feedback.

festiveflashingmammaries · 21/12/2010 09:43

if everything is 5 stars AAA++++++++ what happens when (as happened recently) you buy something, it is hand delivered 2 hours later and is better than described???

AAA+++++++++?

scarletbegonia · 21/12/2010 09:43

Thanks theevildead2 - I've never left any other than positive feedback and wasn't sure if I was being unreasonable.

I agree that its stealing even if the difference is only £2 and I know its daft but I'm reluctant to leave a neg for someone who has 100% positive if its just a mistake.

The seller hasn't replied to my email and whilst I didn't ask for a postage refund I'm happy to have one and will leave positive if that happens.

I have been in the sellers position, postage for a very bulky item turned out to be less than I thought and I refunded without even contacting the buyer and he didn't even have to the courtesy to say thanks.

theevildead2 · 21/12/2010 09:46

Yeah but if they haven't responded begonia, you have nothing to feel bad about!
