To give negative feedback on ebay

...if DCs present doesn't turn up in time. Ordered and paid on Tuesday last week, but despite the claim "usually posts within one day of payment" stuff wasn't posted until Friday. I'm happy to accept that the post is a problem right now, but less than happy that if they'd posted on Wednesday I'd have a much better chance of getting it. Have also checked recent feedback, and the seller has a +ve from the day after my stuff was supposedly posted (which implies to me it must have been dispatched before mine given current delivery times) from somebody who ordered more than a day after me.

BTW, before I get slated, it's far from their only present, but my mum want's me to get something for them from her, and it's the only really obvious option.

It took ten days for a dress I bought to arrive, even though the seller says she sent it out within 2 days of being paid. When it arrived, the postmark tallied with what she said so I think there are huge delays and Royal Mail are being rubbish, same as every other time there is snow/christmas/day with a y in it.

I'd think you were unreasonable.

Usually posts within one day doesn't mean guaranteed. Seller could have been snowed in or had a sick child meaning they couldn't get there.

How do you know only posted fri - did they tell you or just when it marked sent on ebay.

Email seller and see what happening, don't just leave a negative.

I sell on ebay from time to time. To the person who says end your auctions the day before you can post hasn't sold on ebay. Most buyers take a few days to pay, often longer despite my payment within 3 days terms.

My nearest post office is a car drive away (used to be 2 nearby now closed). I'm not doing 10 separate car journeys, I wait until the majority have paid and do 1 trip. My terms do stress postage could take a few days though.

If you buy a loaf of bread from Tescos and when you get home you decide that it really isn't as nice as the description of the packet do you always complain to Tescos before you tell your friends?

I recently bought some "pears" shower gel which was expensive and in a really funky bottle in the shape of a bar of pears soap. I was really excited but when I got in the shower, the gel smelt nothing like pears soap and was really poor in any case.

Of course I thought about complaining to Pears but in reality I told my friends instead! That is what happens in real life, it shouldn't be any different on ebay

festiveflashingmammaries · 21/12/2010 09:57

@mjin post it Via a courier, they will come to you and it will be cheaper anyway

bupcakesandcunting · 21/12/2010 09:57

MJ if you are keeping buyers updated, I'm sure that no-one will leave you shit feedback. It's when sellers leave you hanging that buyers get cheesed off. You'd have to be pretty unreasonable to be annoyed with someone snowed in and unable to post but keeping you updated :)

CrazyChristmasLady · 21/12/2010 10:01

YABU.

Someone has just left me negative feedback. I posted the item, he messaged me to ask if I had sent it, I told him I had (and it was marked as dispatched as soon as I done it). I told him I have proof of postage and gave him the number on the reciept to chase it up with Royal Mail and I also pointed out that there are thousands of parcels back logged at the moment and I have another e bayer in the same position.

He didn't bother to contact me again but has just left me negative feedback.

I am fuming. It isn't my fault that the postal system is delayed and now my perfect feedback is ruined.

1 negative has put me down 2% which makes no sense as my feedback rating is nearly 200.

Agree with bupcakes. I would never leave neg feedback for someone with good communication and a genuine reason.

scarletbegonia · 21/12/2010 10:08

crazy - this is my concern, I wouldn't leave a neg if I'd been kept informed by the seller, it even tells you on the feedback page to allow for postal problems atm.

Howo long would you all wait for a reply to an email query ?

taintedsnow · 21/12/2010 10:12

Negative feedback not warranted in this case from what I can see. It has far too much of an impact on the seller when it does sound like a simple misunderstanding in this instance.

As for the 'stealing' of the postage money as mentioned elsewhere, although the carrier method should have been honoured, postage costs should take into account the cost of packaging an item and transporting it to the post office, all of which can add up considerably depending on the item. So I don't think you can class it as stealing apart from in very exceptional circumstances.

OP, if you must, leave the seller three or four stars instead of the full five on the dispatch rating, as this has less of an impact than the actual feedback.

taintedsnow · 21/12/2010 10:12

I'd wait up to 48 hours for a reply scarlet.

bupcakesandcunting · 21/12/2010 10:13

CCL, contact eBay through the dispute centre. I did this when some moron left me crap feedback despite me sending out her stuff in good time and her getting it within 5 days despite postal strikes.

I sent her an angry email asking why she'd left shit feedback without contacting me first and she said she was sorry and she didn't know why. FUME. eBay removed it though.

CrazyChristmasLady · 21/12/2010 10:14

I haven't read the whole thread, has the seller not contacted you at all then? Is the item marked as dispatched?

I would wait about 3 days for a reply, then I would get annoyed and send another message I think. I've always been lucky and received my items but as a seller I have recently had to deal with a couple of non paying bidders that there was nothing I could do about and now I have a couple of items that haven't been received by the buyer. Luckily one buyer is far more understanding than the other.

I would be taking the fact that it is the run up to xmas and this weather into account at the moment though.

CrazyChristmasLady · 21/12/2010 10:16

Thats good to know BCAC, I have contacted ebay so I am hoping they can resolve it for me.

When I look at other negative and neutral feedbacks that others have left, I am always surprised at the amount that have been for no real reason.

musicposy · 22/12/2010 00:10

My item from 5th Dec arrived lateish today. Yes, it took a horrendously long time to come. However, I left positive feedback because I've no reason to suspect the seller didn't post it when they said - there's obviously a countrywide backlog and I think it can be a bit pot luck as to when stuff gets through.

Other people (whose stuff hadn't taken as long as mine) had left slightly disgruntled feedback, some neutral, but it didn't seem fair to do that given the time of year/ snow etc.

However, the seller did give me plenty of friendly communication and I think that's the key. Had I had no answer I'd probably have got a lot more pissed off.

notinbed · 22/12/2010 02:05

Just in case it makes a difference (I suspect it might given some of the assumptions).

The seller is a real bricks and mortar shop, with it's own website (one I hadn't found before I ebayed, otherwise I'd have just bought direct from there). They offer a next day delivery service on their own website for less than I paid for delivery. The weather where they're based was just fine with no problems due to snow between when I paid and when they dispatched. I know when they dispatched because I got an e-mail saying my stuff was being packaged up and sent that day on Friday morning.

I'd have no problem at all if the stuff didn't arrive due to the post not working if they'd dispatched when they said they would - it's the delay in dispatch which I can't see any reason for. The "usually" bit is just a standard disclaimer that ebay put on - it's not possible to add anything to say you definitely will post within day, and every single item I've bought on ebay before has always been posted within the given timeframe. I guess this is to allow for exceptional circumstances, but as I just said, there were no weather problems where they are last week (nor were there here or anywhere inbetween - I had stuff delivered on Wednesday which I ordered after that, coming from somewhere within 20 miles of them). If it's stuck in the postal system now that's all down to their tardiness in posting.

"Negative feedback not warranted in this case from what I can see. It has far too much of an impact on the seller when it does sound like a simple misunderstanding in this instance."
A misunderstanding that 1 day dispatch doesn't really mean that?

"OP, if you must, leave the seller three or four stars instead of the full five on the dispatch rating, as this has less of an impact than the actual feedback."
At the best I'm leaving one - 3 days to dispatch something they claim one day for isn't really worth that! Given the number of existing feedbacks, even that won't make any difference at all to that rating.

FWIW I wouldn't leave negative or even neutral feedback for either of the sellers making their cases on this thread - you dispatched when you said, the slow post isn't your fault. I've even left +ve feedback before to people who've been very good at resolving when they've sent me the wrong thing by mistake. The thing is, I'm really not sure what the seller can do to resolve the problem if I contact them in this case. Am I just angling for what excuse they have for the delay?

OP posts:
notinbed · 22/12/2010 02:08

...as for impact on the seller, I buy from sellers with a few -ve feedbacks all the time. If I'd seen what I'm thinking of putting I'd have just contacted the seller before purchase to confirm dispatch time!

AlpinePony · 22/12/2010 06:06

YABVU - "usually posts next day" does not mean "will trek through snow for 3 miles to see if post office is open just so you can get something from ebay which you probably should've bought in november or got off your GFA and gone to a fucking shop".

You are also being VFU to actually ask random people on the internet - I mean grow up and make such a teeny-tiny decision on your own!

PS Would you like me to tell you which temperature you should cook your turkey at?

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 22/12/2010 06:13

Gosh, AlpinePony, I think you've misunderstood how Mumsnet works, if your position is "people who ask questions on the internet are stupid babies who deserve to be sworn at".

OP, given the lack of weather problems, the fact that it's their delay not the postal service, etc., I'd be annoyed too. Given that there's nothing they can do to resolve now except offer you store credit (if that's a thing they do?), I'd probably leave the less-than-positive feedback.

AlpinePony · 22/12/2010 06:20

Tortoise - I may well have misunderstood that AIBU is for the banal, but I definitely understand that it's where you are allowed to bitch/rant/snipe.
