do you have regular puma sightings where you live?

we do here in SE kent

AlistairSim · 20/12/2010 16:53

Well, if they don't know what a puma is, it doesn't really matter.

I think you may be getting worked up about the wrong thing though.
FFS, you may have a PUMA in your garden!

SmilingHappyBeaver · 20/12/2010 16:53

A Yeti more likely with all this snow...

usualsuspect · 20/12/2010 16:53

I expect its just prints that have got larger

HalfTermHero · 20/12/2010 16:53

I would not say that she is thoughtless tbh. If she really has seen HUGE prints then she is probably freaked out!

I can't believe you're more worried about the sensibilities of your happily ignorant children than you are about the evidence of a large cat in your garden? Won't somebody please think of the rabbits?

WilfShelf · 20/12/2010 16:54

Fox.

You loon.

scurryfunge · 20/12/2010 16:55

I don't think too many children have been eaten by Pumas on mainland Britain this year, so I wouldn't worry.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/12/2010 16:55

Thoughtless? Maybe just a little bit nuts Grin

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 20/12/2010 16:55

We have them here too in East Anglia. The Fen Tiger is quite famous.

I don't think she was thoughtless in the least. Not unless you are intent on creating hysterical children who feed on fear of the highly unlikely, at any rate.

Mad as cheese, possibly, myopic, quite likely, but not thoughtless.

Hmm

I was walking the dog this morning and the biggest hugest dog I've ever seen bounded up to me for a stroke. It was like a cross between a lion and a bear! Grin Unless she is an expert in animal paw prints she really shouldn't be bandying about the word puma.

I do agree though she was probably just freaked out and not thinking logically about your children listening.

Francagoestohollywood · 20/12/2010 16:57

PUMAS, real pumas, in the UK? Shock

GrimmaTheNome · 20/12/2010 16:58

DH and I once woke at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and saw some large prints and were thinking OMG puma! ... then we realised they were too much in line and worked out actually they'd been made by a large toad hopping by our sleeping bags in the night. The same toad that DH had sleepily seen head on in the dark and momentarily thought was a snake Grin

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 20/12/2010 16:58

Surely someone would have noticed a big fuck-off puma wandering around. Could they be polar bear tracks instead? :)

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2010 16:58

YABU...why don't your 8 and 6 year olds know what a puma is?

I think you should follow the tracks and find out where the puma lives.

Then you can leave out some food so it's not ravenous and doesn't try to devour you.

jessiealbright · 20/12/2010 17:00

Well, if she really thinks she's found evidence of pumas, I suppose she'd feel it would be unneighbourly not to pass the information on to you.

jessiealbright · 20/12/2010 17:01

And I feel an eight year old should know what a puma is!

We have had a few puma sightings over the years.
I do think she could have waited until the children were in bed before knocking.
Appparently she knocked on a few neighbours this morning for them to take a look but didn't take any pictures - I want pictures before I get all hysterical.

Last sighting was at 2am last month by some pissed gentleman taking a shortcut across the marsh lands & then a few jumping on the band wagon more reports from late night -doggers dog walkers.

samay Xmas Grin

usualsuspect · 20/12/2010 17:03

can you get hold of David Attenborough?...I'm sure he could identify the dog puma footprints
