Thank fuck DD's don't know what a puma is!!!
Said negibour then went on about how huge they were & that she feared it was after her rabbits etc.

AIBU to think she is thoughless?

DD's are 8, 6 & 2 & currently think she found reindeer foot prints in her garden Xmas Hmm

Huh. Is it an Expat Puma? Because they live in the Americas, usually.

Perhaps it's an illegal immigrant puma?

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2010 17:04

I've just checked DS2(7) knows what a puma is...he said "it's a car"..I said "no it's a big cat"...he said "oh you mean a cougar".

Can your neighbour recognise the difference between dog and cat prints? If so, YANBU..she is thoughtless..she should have stayed in her house for her own safety.

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 20/12/2010 17:04

send photo of footprint to these people and they can tell you whether it is a genuine big cat print

google "puma sightings uk" if you dare Xmas Grin

jessiealbright · 20/12/2010 17:05

lol at the late night doggers

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2010 17:05

Well if she hadn't warned you and you'd let your kids out in the garden unsupervised and they'd got eaten you'd probably have thought that was more thoughtless. She probably thinks she's being very thoughtful. Grin

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2010 17:06

Maybe your neighbour is a "cougar"...and she has seen her won footprints.

ItsAHollyJollyTee · 20/12/2010 17:06

Actually, Lynette, your son is correct. Puma is another word for cougar.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 20/12/2010 17:09

Fen Tiger

My ex swears he saw one when he was driving home through North Herts one evening. But then again, he speaks bollocks all the time so there is no reason to believe him. :o

Lotster · 20/12/2010 17:12

What Lynette said.

OP I do wish you'd waited until after my children were in bed before starting threads about Pumas!!

Weird thread...Xmas Grin

EauRudolph · 20/12/2010 17:13

I always thought fen tiger was a nickname for people with 6 fingers Grin There's been a couple of sightings near me, I do have a very large black cat though so I wonder if any of the sightings were just him...

SlightlySparkly · 20/12/2010 17:14

So have just googled puma sightings UK and am Shock to see that there are several websites/societies dedicated to the analysis of photos/footprints of 'big cats' in the UK. Seems that there are quite a few Lynx' out there and yep a couple of Puma sightings too.

I feel quite foolish for being completely unaware that this was the case - I think it's quite exciting in an odd way.

In your shoes OP, I would now demand night vision goggles for christmas and spend hours peering at the garden in the hope of capturing some footage to send to John Craven's Newsround.

And yes, I know it isn't 'John Craven' any more but it will always be his Newsround to me.

TrillianAstra · 20/12/2010 17:14

I would be excited rather than scared if I were 8 and a neighbour said she had seen puma prints.

Pixel · 20/12/2010 17:15

Was just going to say I'd be thrilled and would rush straight round to take a look. Xmas Smile

TheSleepFairy · 20/12/2010 17:16

I've just googled big cat sightings in xxx & apparently we have lot's of ufo's zipping over the marshes & a man was hit with a flying frozen sausage in a road rage incident but nothing on page one about big cat's.

8y old probably would know what a puma is if she had heard the word correctly but as she was only half listening & then started saying "what's a premr mum" I just fobbed her off with reindeer Xmas Confused

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 20/12/2010 17:16

erm, even if they did know what a puma was, what's teh problem? have you raised tehm to be as hysterical as you?

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 20/12/2010 17:16

ah yes, good old john cravens newsround!

Lotster · 20/12/2010 17:16

"I always thought fen tiger was a nickname for people with 6 fingers...! EH??
Does that mean Ann Boleyn was actually a Fen Tiger? Confused

Liam Gallagher has six toes on one foot.

Pixel · 20/12/2010 17:18

I really can't see that they are dangerous to people anyway, after all no one has yet got near enough to one to get a decent photo.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 20/12/2010 17:19

Grin @ samay!!

Lonnie · 20/12/2010 17:20

OMG this thread made me cry with laugher..

OP I am with Samay's remember for "next sighting" Grin

TheSleepFairy · 20/12/2010 17:21

ILove don't think I am sending many hysterical vibes out.

I couldn't give a shit what's roaming around in the dark late at night tbh.

Just thought it's a bit thoughtless to knock on someones door & tell 3 children she has found giant paw prints in her back garden & be carefull incase it comes back to eat our cat!!

OP posts:
ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 20/12/2010 17:22

Val, that one looks quite big. how big is a puma? i thought tehy were domestic dog sized.

EauRudolph · 20/12/2010 17:23

Lotster, it's a local joke for local people Grin In some villages around the Fens there is a fairly limited gene pool.

Lotster · 20/12/2010 17:24
