Right, well I just had to help a friend and her kids down our dark, icy drive with a torch.

On the way back up alone, I heard rustling in the bushes. Can you guess what went through my mind, thanks to you lot?!! Xmas Grin

My husband has just come home and showed me a picture on his phone of what appear to be Emu/ostrich footprints in the snow in Bolton!

My bil has an old friend who's family farm boar in Norfolk (I think). They have found livestock carcasses dragged up into trees. Like how cats do it. And boar aren't small.

Ooh, I love stories about wild animals in the UK, always exciting. It fascinates me that there might be big creatures about!
DH and I planned a trip to the Abruzzo in Italy a few years ago solely because we'd read that there are still bears, wolves and wild boar in the forests.
DH saw a bear but I didn't :( Was devastated!!

Have not read the whole thread (sorry folks) but would just like to say that about 10 years ago my dad saw a puma on the edge of a field when he was walking the dog. He was within 20 feet of it and is quite sure about what he saw. He reported it to the police but they didn't believe him until about 5 other people saw it too.

There are big cats in mainland Britain! Exciting but scary.

This might have been said already, but there is some concern about these big cats moving into towns when they get short of food. We already have urban foxes and badgers - one day we might have urban big cats. There is a theory that big cats were released into the wild by rich owners in the late 70s / early 80s and, if this is the case, they seem to be breeding in the wild so the present generation could have no particular fear of humans.

Here comes a bit of blatant scaremongering: if these cats are old, sick or injured, they might decide to take the easiest, slowest-moving prey they can find - e.g. pets, small children...

My father claims to have seen a large 'cat' out whilst fishing in the middle arse of no where (Somerset)He claims it just leap from one side of a wood to the other and was massive. We just nodded. He has a hip flask when he night fishes...

Think the south west has the highest amount of wild cat sightings recorded though

Friend of friend on fb has an update about finding strange, huge footprints in the snow.

Own up. Who went out with blown up rubber gloves last night?
