OK let me publically state here I am totally in agreement with not taking dodgy foodstuffs into foreign countries, you get my drift honey, dirty boat bottoms etc etc.

However a friend and I have a thing going on about penguins and tim tams.
Ages ago when you transitted though LA you had to get off the plane clear immigration get your stuff and go back through to get your London flight do you still have to?

Anyway she was flying form Oz had the obligatory tim tams came through LA and they got taken off her, I'm really irrationally pissed off with this.

It's a pack of precessed biscuits that was going no further than 20 minutes in the lounge she wasn't even going to eat one!!

Am I wrong? is there a problem with tim tams? I do prefer penguins naturally but it still makes me cross

expectingapostalorder · 20/12/2010 13:09

MadreInglese · 20/12/2010 13:09

eh?

Cyb · 20/12/2010 13:10

They are chocolate biscuits that cost about a pound

When you think about all the 1000's of folk stranded in airports at the moment, a little packet of biscuits does not really factor

chrimblycompo · 20/12/2010 13:10

Pmsl

supernoodlesrock · 20/12/2010 13:11

were the tim tams carrying a concealed weapon? Confused

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 20/12/2010 13:12

AFAIK, it's like that everywhere now and has been for some years. When I went to Oz in 2001, we even had to throw out the prepacked biscuits in Oz that Quantas had given out during the flight Hmm. The problem is that there are contaminations at times in even processed and prepacked foodstuffs, so I think they are right and as far as I can see, Oz in particular have a lot less crop/livestock problems than other countries.

Pancakeflipper · 20/12/2010 13:12

Tim Tams are like Penguin biscuits.
But to what the rest of the Opening thread relates... well I have read it twice and still bewildered...

chrimblycompo · 20/12/2010 13:13

You should have posted this in the thread 'what are the least of your problems', lol

InkyStamp · 20/12/2010 13:16

Tim Tams are FAR better than yukky penquins! And you can bring them from Oz direct to the UK. My family bring them to me! So maybe it is just the US?

TrillianAstra · 20/12/2010 13:16

I bought back Tim Tams via LA - in my checked luggage, and they survived.

ilovecrisps · 20/12/2010 13:17

But the tim tams were from OZ!!

Five I thought overly processed food like biscuits etc was generally agreed to be OK, after all they don't dip the passengers (yet) do they?

except is it Oz where they spray the plane after landing?

Cyb I suppose its all the airport news that's got me thinking about my tim tams

Pancake they took my biscuits with I suspect no reason other than they wanted to eat them Grin

after all if biscuits had been in checked luggage I gather they would have been OK?!

Inky you missed IMHO off your post Wink

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 20/12/2010 13:23

I don't know! I was really Xmas Shock when they told us to throw out their own biscuits (and this was flying from Perth to Melbourne too!). I just wouldn't bother trying to take anything through anymore (should I be fortunate enough to fly anywhere that is!).

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 20/12/2010 13:24

And yes! I think it is Oz where they spray the planes.

InkyStamp · 20/12/2010 13:24

That is because in Oz they have to put anti melting agents in it, so it affects the taste.

And there is no IMHO about it. 'Tis FACT!! Grin

TrillianAstra · 20/12/2010 13:27

Timtams are a lighter crunchier biscuit than a penguin.

Ormirian · 20/12/2010 13:28

"dirty boat bottoms" Eh? Foodstuffs?

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 20/12/2010 13:29

Why does she bother to bring TimTams all the way from Oz?
You can get them in Tescos.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 20/12/2010 13:31

I bought some in Tesco (tim tams).

stainesmassif · 20/12/2010 13:33

timtams are much nicer than penguins, no imho about it.

ilovecrisps · 20/12/2010 13:33

Five from Perth to Melbourne, consumption gone mad Shock

Inky come over and have some lovely Cadburys one day, flake, fruit and nut you choose

Partridge I'm sure you couldn't then this was a while ago. Where are they made? probably Eastern Europe lol
