Go into Privacy Settings, then there is an option to customise settings. sO you can set to friends EXCEPT.... certain people

Why on earth do you have your mum on facebook when you use it for posting pissed jokes you know she won't appreciate?

I think you either have facebook as a family affair with benign comments, or have it with mainly friends and possibly similar age relatives who you're also friends with and have more jokes and suggestive comments. Trying to do both doesn't work.
I have the former as I don't broadcast many details of my life in public and rarely go on facebook.
It sounds as though you want the latter. Delist her or change what she sees.

People who can't work out and use FB privacy settings should think carefully about whether they ought to be posting in the first place, surely?!

Unless he is 13 and has parental permission then no, he can't read your facebook updates.

Put her on limited profile, so she can't see anything you do, then if she asks just say 'yeah I don't use that as much any more'.

I will not be censored with what I write on Facebook or anywhere else - if my mum doesn't like it, she can hid me. Yes, I do have her as a friend, and that's fine but she's not one to tell me what to say or not.

If she did, she'd be disinfriended very fast and I would tell her why, politely but directly.

Having said that, I dont really do anything in terms of status updates that could be considered too controversial...one or two she might have been miffed about have usually been clarified pretty quickly by friends joining in and putting the joke in context.

Just deal with her somehow rather than putting up with it and having to moan - either limited profile, disinfriend and brace yourself for the fall-out but be honest and adult about why, or censor yourself a bit IF you value her opinion and think she has a point (for what its worth I think she is overreacting and muscling in on a private joke)

The answer is to put her on a limited profile. I'd suggest you put your son on one too if you have any concerns.

Go to Account (top right)

Then Privacy Settings

Then "Customize settings" (at the bottom, small blue writing)

Then the first option is "Posts by me" which includes status updates

Go to "customize"

You'll see a "hide this from" option. Enter your mother's name.

Don't forget to press "save setting"

She did overreact IMO, but you probably should bear in mind that if you put something on fb it may be visible to a lot more people than the 'in-group' of friends you meant to share the joke with...so if it's not something you'd say in front of all those people, you might not want to say it.

I have put my friends into groups so sometimes my status can be seen by everyone - sometimes just work colleagues, sometimes just by family. Just click on the little lock icon by the status bar.
