Hands up if you dress your baby boy in baby girl tights

when it's really cold. Socks are bloody useless, and who's going to know that he's wearing tights under his trousers?

Come to think of it, what is wrong with retailers that you can't buy baby tights specially designed for little boys?

I dress my ds aged two years in tights.

zachsmama · 19/12/2010 18:28

I have boy tights for my son - but then I live on the continent where it's usual to dress boys in tights in winter. Try H&M for baby boy tights.

But YANBU noone will know he's wearing tights anyway.

ilovemyfestivehens · 19/12/2010 18:28

Mine wear pink bedsocks Grin

MotherofHobbit · 19/12/2010 18:28

Not yet but I think it's a good idea. Poor little DS's legs get very cold.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 19/12/2010 18:29

Why on earth do they need to be 'boy' tights?

Ds (6) still wears tights when it is really cold, so does dh for that matter Wink.

belgo · 19/12/2010 18:30

I have loads of grey tights bought in Asda a few years ago, do they not do them anymore? Or navy or dark green?

beanlet · 19/12/2010 18:30

My sister lives in Russia where apparently it's totally normal to dress boys in tights until they are quite old -- she says the grandmothers tsk at you if there is a millimeter of flesh showing on your baby anywhere.

I ordered plain navy, white and cream tights for DS from John Lewis which work a treat, but can you buy them in our local branch? No.

OP posts:
beanlet · 19/12/2010 18:31

They don't need to be 'boy' tights, but my DS looks enough like a little girl as it is without people assuming he is one. I don't care for his sake, it's just embarrassing for the person doing the assuming when they get it wrong!

h&m has boys tights with cars on and that kind of thing
i have just got neutralish colour tights for mine from mothercare like cream and blue. some has a flower on but it doesn't show, so they look quite boyish. i think its a good idea, i copied it from on here actually people mentioned before and i went out to get some

coldtits · 19/12/2010 18:35

But presumably the child would have trousers over the top if it's that cold, so it doesn't matter - I used to simply buy plain tights. Red, navy or cream.

coldtits · 19/12/2010 18:36

these are awseome

eatyourveg · 19/12/2010 18:38

Yes I put all 3 ds in them during the winter until they were big enough not to be in a pushchair. They're just longjohns with toes!

Now 12 14 16 they all wear longjohns under their school trousers, the stripey ones in m&s are apparently considered cool!

MickyLee · 19/12/2010 18:40

It isn't that cold here, but did put Ds in tights under his trousers when he started crawling for a few weeks. we have tiled floor and his knees were hurting so the extra layer really helped.

hockeypuck · 19/12/2010 18:41

My 4 year old loves tights. Ive convinced him to call them Long Johns because his reception friends laugh at him.

hatesponge · 19/12/2010 18:41

we bought some navy and red woolly 'boys' tights from Lidl years ago for the DSs, which were great.

ShanahansRevenge · 19/12/2010 18:45

Love the Tykes tights! I may buy some for my friends litte boy...his Dad is notoriously against anythig "girly" but how can he moan about these? I will say "But they're BLUE! With TRAINS on!" Xmas Grin

Excited now!

TLESinChristmasStockings · 19/12/2010 18:46

I bought 4 pairs of tights in Primark recently 2 red and 2 black pairs for DS2 - he calls them his "stripeys" I have no idea where he gets that from lol.

cubbie · 19/12/2010 19:59

Both my DS wear tights, black and cream ones from a tesco multipack, gave the pink ones to neighbours grand-daughter.

Dh isn't very keen, too girly, but I don't care. We call them long johns and their legs are lovely and cosy.

Haribojoe · 19/12/2010 20:01

Have just started doing this with DS3 as it is soooo cold and llie other posters I think socks are useless.

Thought DH would have a fit but he actually thinks it's quite a sensible thing to do!

MumNWLondon · 19/12/2010 20:06

DS2 is 8 months and he was wearing navy tights today, he wears them every day (JL do plain navy ones) - have whole bag of girlie ones from DD and DN but he hasn't worn them.

DS1 wore plain navy tights today(were DD's school ones, now too small for her), he is 4.5.... he asked to wear them as he was cold yesterday.

ethelina · 19/12/2010 20:06

Boy aged 14 weeks has BabyGap ones with cats on the bum. Smile. There's no bloody way i'm letting him freeze just because society says tights are for girls. I have taken pictures for embarrassing him in front of future girlfriends posterity. (evilGrin)

Oblomov · 19/12/2010 20:07

Have never done it. Don't know anyone who has. Is this a new thing ? I mean if you lived in iceland or something, I could understand, but do you really think we need this in the UK ?

ziggyf · 19/12/2010 20:09

Oh yes, my DS (3) wears tights when it's cold - he loves them! We call them "under-trousers with feet" Xmas Wink

ethelina · 19/12/2010 20:17

I do think its necessary, yes. My baby is not old enough to be able to pull his dungaree or trouser legs down to cover the air gap between them and the socks. Girls wear tights under trousers, I have been known to if its bitter. Why shouldn't boys do the same?

ModreB · 19/12/2010 20:41

YANBU. My DH, (a lollipop man) wears tights all the time. As did DS's until they were old enough to protest lol Xmas Grin
