Seriously aibu? There hasnt been any mail deliveries In my area for 3days. 3 days!!! I'm waiting on so much stuff!! Neither have my neighbours or anyone locally. Now yes it's snowing and yes roads aren't great but a) they're passable with care b) I live in a major city not a rural area and c) I've managed to get to work and do Christmas shopping etc with care.

So seriously royal mail what's going on?? AIBU to be a bit fecked off?

I haven't had a sausage for days here either. Either it's Royal Mail or I've been disowned by all the people who normally send me Christmas cards.

Lulumaam · 19/12/2010 17:17

I think you are, bearing in mind most of the country seems to have ground to a halt

Dylan44 · 19/12/2010 17:18

At the beginning of december we had no mail for 10 days! Apparantly postmen are not allowed to go up hills in the snow!

cordelia28 · 19/12/2010 17:41

I live in major city on flat land not far from the delivery office I meant whats going on? I don't want postal staff to take risks but the roads here are passable with care. I haven't seen ANY vans out- have they just stopped? Are they not allowed out?

perhaps the stuff you were expecting is coming from somewhere that isn't a major city with clear roads?

elementforlife · 19/12/2010 17:53

I'm a royal mail driver in the midlands. I got all my stuff out until saturday morning. Then I did half my firms delivery and the local shopping centre at which point the managers called us back as it was too dangerous to continue.
We will be working extra hours next week to clear the back log which is a bit crap because my kids are off school. Never mind its gotta be done. Everything will be cleared by christmas eve in my office.

cordelia28 · 19/12/2010 18:01

Thanks elementforlife you sound like a fantastic employee!! :) I just can't understand why theres been no deliveries in my area at all!

DH works for royal mail - he's head office staff but everyone's been drafted in to help. He took out a van yesterday morning with about 50 packets, but had to give up with 20 to go as he was terrifying himself in the snow. We're city based too, but some of the roads were just too grim. He said that loads of people were ecstatic to get their packets and parcels - not surprising I guess! He'll try again tomorrow. Not sure if UABU or not but I guess they're trying their best.

Jux · 19/12/2010 18:08

I've had stuff, something came yesterday in fact.

JeezyPeeps · 19/12/2010 18:13

I think Y May be Being U. You don't know where your postman lives, or if they are shortstaffed due to the weather. Do you know where your local sorting office is? If they have managed to get any deliveries of mail to the sorting office? There is a whole lot of factors in play that you don't seem to have taken into account - it's not just about the weather in your street.

elementforlife · 19/12/2010 18:14

I'd call the delivery office in the morning and check if anyone will be taking your road. The postie might be choosing not to go to certain areas thinking its too dangerous.

Think most of the problems lie with the stuff not getting through to the delivery offices or being held up at mail centres.

shirleyhyypia · 19/12/2010 18:18

Was gonna post something similar, but then RM brought us about 10 parcels today. On a SUNDAY! :)

goingroundthebend4 · 19/12/2010 18:19

odd that citytowns are struggling with royal mail .Im rural and our postman always comes in van and he has made it out every day even though our road is not cleared or gritted.

Mind saying that tomorrow might be differnt story

InkyStamp · 19/12/2010 18:21

Our postmen are working in the snow here on a Sunday. I do think they are trying their best. Is your mail really worth risking peoples lives for? I cant think of any mail that is that important.

cordelia28 · 19/12/2010 18:28

No it isn't inkystamp but the main roads in our city are passable with care I've been out and about but there has been no deliveres locally. That's great about your mail Shirley :) element good idea I will ring the deliver office tomorrow hopefully find out what's going on.

I'm RM staff and our office has had no rural deliveries the last two days. Not allowed to drive on snowy roads.

Some staff may not be able to get in to work so there may not be enough people to cover the city area.

GodRestYeMerryMummyLin · 19/12/2010 18:48

The royal mail are doing the best they can in these difficult circumstances.I too am waiting fot parcels but thats the way it is at the moment.i feel sorry for them, they are doing all they can for now.

ChippyMinTurnAgainWhittington · 19/12/2010 19:31

YABU
Apparently our postie slipped and fell in our road on Friday, whilst pushing his heavily-laden bicycle. We didn't get post yesterday or today but his health is more important than a few random xmas cards.

goingroundthebend4 · 20/12/2010 05:05

Crocky

so by that I shall not expect any mail tomorrow then as our lane defintley not cleared, but is passable. But can understand why not

GodRestYeMerryMummyLin · 20/12/2010 11:26

We def will not be getting post today and its understandable why,it has been snowing here since 8am this morning .Poor posties if they do have to go out in this.

pommedeterre · 20/12/2010 11:30

I got some xmas cards this am but still no sign of dh's present from amazon (posted on 13th Dec according to them!).
I feel for the posties though. Brrr! Over the last few weeks several have commented on how nicely gritted my drive is for them Grin

GodRestYeMerryMummyLin · 20/12/2010 13:13
