...to think my cat is gifted and talented?

Most of the time he just lies in front of the fire, licks his arse and dribbles, but when he wants to to wake up in the morning and feed him, he will repeatedly tap my arm with his paw. And if I doze off he will tap me even harder.

Anyone else got a feline genius?

My two cats just now are not G&T, but I had a great cat, who would play ball, chase a bouncy ball down a stairwell, three flights, pick it up, bring it back into the flat and drop it at my feet in the living room. She was such a lovely cat too, she was beautiful and a complete star, still miss her.

Jux · 19/12/2010 18:06

We have 3 cats, 2 of which are thick as pig shit, but the 3rd is truly amazing. She is only 13 weeks old and has already won the Booker Prize and several other literary awards. She is currently working on her artistic talent - Slade School of Art are begging her to attend, but she's looking at New York as she thinks she'll have more fun there.

We wait for further antics from her with baited breath.

Jux · 19/12/2010 18:07

In reality, she is very good at chewing the end of dd's favourite pen, and has made a nice sculpture of 'found things' in the corner of the bedroom. Xmas Grin

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 19/12/2010 18:17

PMSL at these, especially MDS's 'savant' cat! Xmas Grin

I bought my mum a kitten when I left home, as a replacement (she liked him better! Xmas Wink) and he was a bit G&T - he knew whenever I was coming home for the weekend (not every weekend) and would wait for me at the top of the stairs, then run down and climb up until he was draped over my shoulder. Not G&T enough to avoid getting run over at 1yo, sadly.

My first guineapig was definitely G&T though - came when called, answered to his name, could climb in and out of the plastic tray base of his cage (after I''d unclipped the wire bit), was mostly housetrained. Another tragic early loss - still miss him too.

My cat used to wake me by tapping me on the arm and if I pretended to be asleep, he'd lick my eyelids! Blerch! But it worked, I had to get up then.

Our old cat was vry clever he would wake me up by trying to open my eyelids with his paw, he had worked out that an awake persons eyes were open, he also ignored the christmas tree until he wanted feeding or attention then he would sit underneath and bat one of the baubles until I gave him what he wanted.

The one I have now is also clever the other week he decided that out of all the places a cat can sit he wanted to sit in my seat, so everytime I got up he jumped on it.

He was on my seat once and I threw him off, so he jumped up onto the coffee table where he is NOT allowed and he knows it.

When I got uo to shoo him off he jumped off ran round me and sat in my seat.

cheeky moggy

IvantaOuiOui · 19/12/2010 19:39

my thick cat loves to sit on the computer keyboard, usually leading to messages on screen saying "Do you REALLY want to switch on the widget calculator?" or similar.

CMOTdibbler · 19/12/2010 19:42

My old cat could manipulate gravity. Well, I have no other explanation for the way he could sit on your chest in bed and make himself 100 times heavier so you would wake up gasping for breath. If this didn't work, he would gently extend one claw and tap it up the inside of your nose. And so you'd open your eyes to a cat 1cm from your face.

He also excelled at staring at people. He glared at a friend of ours for 7 years throughout any length of visit. It was apparently unnerving

sharbie · 19/12/2010 19:48

my siamese goes to bed at 11pm every night and will yowl at me and harrass/jump on me at that time until i put him to bed.
if you speak to him he will talk back but cannot talk if he is purring.
he knows his name and will come when you call it (the other 2 cats don't).
he can open the fridge.

one of our old cats could knock the letterbox on the front door to come in and another would put her paw in your mouth to wake you up in the morning.

my dog is smart but way behind the cats.

BigHairyGruffalo · 19/12/2010 19:52

My cat loves Springwatch but isn't so keen on Lion Man! Grin

APixieInMyTea · 19/12/2010 20:07

One of my (mum's really) cat's used to hide on top of the wardrobe and jump off and land directly on your face with her claws out just as you where drifting off to sleep.

She would play chase and retrieve too. Her and the dog used to have races. ( Her and the dog also used to sleep together in the same basket, dog's paw over cat, cuddled up)

She would ring a bell to go out. Answer to her name and quite often caught her reading the dictionary. Never any other of the many books on the same shelf, just the dictionary.

She did however try to attack the tv if any other cats came on, run around in circles chasing her tail EVERYTIME she needed to do wee/pee and try to catch the fish through the glass.

Ariesgirl · 19/12/2010 20:14

My cat can ACTUALLY tell the time. It's true. She tells me at 6pm every day that it's tea time. She's a genius.

CeliaChristmasFate · 19/12/2010 20:16

I love [[http://www.simonscat.com/ these!]

CeliaChristmasFate · 19/12/2010 20:17

My cat is quietly observing DS1s keyboard lessons. She always comes and sits on the sofa in front of him when his teacher comes round. I have no doubt that one day soon she will reveal herself as the feline musical genius lurking underneath the dribbly furry facade.

(She treads in her own poo though, so I don't think she's an all-rounder)

I do worry that these cats aren't being properly "stretched". There is a real concern that they will get bored, then become disruptive.....

musicposy · 20/12/2010 07:32

My cat meows in tune. He can do Grade 1 aural tests. Definitely G+T Grin

ohemgee · 20/12/2010 07:44

Love simons cat. Lol at seeker!

Our cat, who is now 19, will collect things she likes in her bed like a magpie. Sweet wrappers, pencils, etc. I think she's preparing for the g&t cat revolution.

HowsTheSerenity · 20/12/2010 07:51

Cat #1 is brain damaged so always gets stuck in its cat flap, or forgets that the inside door is closed so gets stuck between two doors.
Forgets that the stove is hot and jumps on it but does not realise that it should jump off.
It falls over for no reason too.
Sad but very very funny.

SantaIsAnAnagramOfSatan · 20/12/2010 07:53

one of my childhood cats had a cunning plan for the fish bowl.

she would sit and drink and drink and drink. she'd definitely sussed out that if she could just get rid of the water.... Grin you've never seen a cat look so gutted as when we'd top the tank up.

i also had a cat who was some kind of empath. when i was sad as a kid i would lay my head in my arms and cry and without fail even if there'd been no sign of her you'd suddenly hear purring and feel a gentle nudging to your head as she tried to squeeze in between my arms and face. always cheered me.

my current cat likes to get in the bath, follows me to nursery and occasionally jumps up and attacks me as if it's a fun game. however he allows my 3 year old to pick him up and drag him about with very rare recourse to violence so he's a winner.

aurynne · 20/12/2010 08:40

OP, you may own an indigo cat! Grin

bramblebooks · 20/12/2010 09:14

Mine is definitely g&t. When she's hungry she peels the wallpaper slowly from the wall if we are even sightly delayed in feeding her.
