to tell DH I think it's mad for us to set out in a blizzard in the car with a 12wo and a 3yo?

For a visit to friends? They live 45mins away (in good traffic/weather) and it involves going on the M25. Terrified having seen news footage from last couple of weeks that we will break down/get stuck in the blizzard and all freeze. If we didn't have 12wo DD I wouldn't be so concerned. Am I being a drama queen?

Bloody hell, what a twat!

And now it´s sulking.
Dear God!

Georgimama · 18/12/2010 16:25

But seriously, why ask the question if you were going to go anyway? Deeply stupid of you both and you're lucky nothing serious happened.

pigletmania · 18/12/2010 16:25

Dont do it! Its madness unless you need to go out, stay at home. I have a dd of 3 and we were meant to go to a wedding in Reading today, we live in MK. I would not contemplate it with a young child who is quite high maintenance. Dont fancy being stuck on the motorway for 6 hours with any child.

pigletmania · 18/12/2010 16:28

Your dh is sulking! What an absolute baby. I would tell him that he can go by himself, but that you are dcs are staying put, noway are you going to put them at risk just to visit friends.

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 18/12/2010 16:33

How could you let your husband talk you into doing something so ridiculous? Shock Shock

Next time stand up for yourself, woman.

GypsyMoth · 18/12/2010 17:19

pigletmania....my friend has just crashed at kingston tesco, they set off and there was no snow, but on returning home found inches and skidded into a lamp post. 3 dc very upset, uninjured but youngest is only 8 weeks old and his seatbelt came undone on impact Shock

just not worth it

diddl · 18/12/2010 17:48

OMG-is the baby OK?

TurkeyMartini · 18/12/2010 17:55

OP: we will not be satisfied until we know that you have MADE your husband see that he was being a reckless idiot.

Update please.

I mean, sulking, FFS... why do you lot marry people like this? Seriously? So many MNers seem to have men in their lives who act like preschoolers. It is kind of depressing.

sleighBELLasringing · 18/12/2010 17:57

Op it is just madness! Tell us that he didn't go with the DC?

Kalypso · 18/12/2010 18:04

I honestly can't believe that your husband behaved in this way. I think that when he's stopped sulking(!), you need to have a word with him about priorities - number one being his family's safety.

It's all very well if you have a 4x4, but what happens if some other driver plows into your car? It's not only your own driving you have to worry about in weather like this. And, as you say, there's not much point having a big car if you're stuck in traffic.

Glad you are home and safe.

whoneedssleepanyway · 18/12/2010 18:07

Glad you came home OP.

We tried to make it home from family today but got a mile down the road and turned back it was so hideous.

Was in Sweden 3 weeks ago for work and my boss has a volvo 4 wheel drive thing, everyone in Sweden seemed to drive regular estates and he asked the guy we were visiting why no one had the volvo 4WDs and he said "because they are shit" it did make me chuckle.

It is really irrelevant anyway if you have a car that can cope with the conditions but there is someone else on the road in a car that can't...

GypsyMoth · 18/12/2010 18:10

baby is fine, they all are, just shaken.....but they now have no car for her dh to drive (he drives to a station to commute) or to drive to wales next week for xmas with his parents

they have no money to suddenly buy food for xmas or repair the car

this is what could happen to anyone, and there wasn't even a great deal of snow. and were travelling very slowly anyway.its so not worth going anywhere

pigletmania · 18/12/2010 18:20

omg IloveTiff exactly not worth it if you dont need to go out. Thats good news that they are all fine, could have been worse espcially on a fast motorway.

natandchris10 · 18/12/2010 18:20

www.motorwaycameras.info/ this is the cameras thing

pigletmania · 18/12/2010 18:23

What a fruitcake the ops dh is to want to put the family at risk for an unessesary journey.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2010 18:24

I so agree TurkeyMartini.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 18/12/2010 18:25

Thank goodness you turned back JB!

pigletmania · 18/12/2010 18:25

Sad for their situation IloveTiff though

Avoidingargosthischristmas · 18/12/2010 18:33

What a tool! Sadly not alone in being one though. Took kids ice skating yesterday with ex, came out of rink snow everywhere. Was supposed to be giving him lift to work said I didn't want to now as would be a forty minute round trip and was worried in this weather, took a skid across the road and missing a parked car by inches for him to stop arguing with me about it. This also the man who wanted me to drive to Wales when nine months pregnant with ds in icy February having not been behind the wheel for five years.

It is easy to say stand up to these men but not always simple to do with an aggressive shouty man in practice. Not saying your dh is like this op but still.......
