To think political threads are desperately dull

...and no matter how hard people might argue, unlikely to change anybody's mind in one direction or another, so somewhat pointless unless you're just looking for an argument.

No don't agree i have learnt a lot thanks to the wise people on mumsnet who know a lot of politics.
Politics effects everyone of us and if you cant be arsed to think about and debate the issues and then vote then you can't moan when it all goes pear shaped.
You carry on discussing greggs and fruit shoots if you wantGrin

NIB yes, politics can be dull; but they can be made funny. I think you will find Matthew Paris has fun political books on the library shelf

PressureDrop · 18/12/2010 13:03

I don't think they're dull, no. Frustrating? incredibly! But not dull.

I think it's very hard to have a proper debate on the internet.

I really enjoyed MN around the time of the election.

Dull to me is breastfeeding/formula feeding, weaning and nappies. Automatic 'press hide' fodder.

Gabby you big randomer, welcome back.

TrillianAstra · 18/12/2010 13:05

I want to go on the "to think anyone who votes X is Y" threads and just say YABU, not everyone who votes X will be Y no matter what X or Y are.

But then they would be in my 'threads I'm on' and I don't want them to be.

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 18/12/2010 13:05

I think debate is never dull.

I find endless whitter about shoes and skirts and eastenders so mindnumbingly dull that I could rip off my own arm just to feel something.

I prefer to at least take my brain out of the wrapper once in a while.

Alouiseg · 18/12/2010 13:12

They're my absolute favourite!

Relationships bore the pants off me, I don't care how you feed your baby as long as you do but politics seems to draw out peoples backgrounds and pov like no other subject. It's fascinating.

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 18/12/2010 13:36

It's the religion threads which get to me. 20 pages of people who are NEVER going to change their minds because only the most hardened believers/atheists will argue for that long.

I would be genuinely surprised if anyone on MN has changed their mind about religion as a result of a thread.
