I am getting really fed up trying to get stuff done such as hair, manicures, kid's hair cuts, cleaners.

Is it me?

When I get my hair highlighted, the first time it looks gorgeous, then the next time it will be a fuck up, so I end up finding somewhere else, and the same thing happens.

My nails ! I pay £35 and the smile lines are all wonky and the gel starts flaking off after 7 days. So I find somewhere else that is recommended. The smile line is all over the place and it looks like I have done it myself.

Son's hair. Went to barber and they fart about so long that he gets all upset. They refuse to cut out some cheese wax that was stuck in his hair. She spends 15 minutes combing it out making him scream then proceeds to cut that bit off anyway Shock I go somewhere else yesterday that was recommended but found the staff to be very unhelpful and indifferent regarding the fact that they don't accept payment by card and I dint have enough cash.

My cleaner, asks for £12 an hour to do a deep clean, and doesn't clean behind the cooker. So now I am all disappointed about that.

I am spending money left right and centre yet I have stripey crap hair, wonkey shitty nails, and mank behind my cooker.

AIBU to be pissed off ? If so , point me in the right direction.

With the hair, I ask them to try and avoid creating a line across the front because I have a widow's peak. I explain and they understand and make a good job. O go home all impressed and return there 5 weeks later. This time, I get the crappy line across the front again. This has happened about 5 times now in the last 2 years, it is like a cycle that keeps repeating. It must be me, but I don't know what more I can do.

I can recommend an excellent hairdresser in the Rickmansworth area of the UK, if any help??

MsKalo · 16/12/2010 07:16

I don't know what to recommend but I do agree that a lot of the services we pay for nowadays seem to be really shit! People expect you to pay but they don't put the effort in

narkypuffin · 16/12/2010 08:23

Service isn't necessarily related to price. My advice - with hairdressers and nail techs- is get to know the person the first time you go. Chat and tip. If you're happy with their work get their card so you book with them the next time and if possible make the second appointment before you leave.

If they see you as a one off/irregular customer you're more likely to get indifferent service. If they see you as their customer who is a regular source of business it helps.

Cleaners are a law unto themselves.

southeastastra · 16/12/2010 08:25

are you taking the piss?

narkypuffin · 16/12/2010 08:31

Me or OP?

OnEdge · 16/12/2010 08:41

southeastastra · 16/12/2010 08:47

oh sorry read op wrongly thought you meant £12 only for deep clean. ignore me it's early

Blush

though i would have got the 'cheese' out of hair first

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/12/2010 09:29

WTF is a smile line?
If your cleaner suggested the deep clean herself, it is possbily because she isn't doing her job properly anyway. That's something to think about.

TrillianAstra · 16/12/2010 09:33

If I were asking a cleaner to do a 'deep clean' I would list what I wanted done, it's a pretty vague term.

Did you go to the same hairdresser to get your hair re-done? If someone does it well, take a picture immediately and then go back to that person and say 'I want it like you did it last time, here is a picture'.

My nails don't smile as far as I am aware, so can't help you there.

OnEdge · 16/12/2010 10:20

hahhaaa , the smile line is the where the white meets the pink Grin

I now have a mobile hair dresser and i am slowly getting her to do what I want, but I can't believe she can't see where it is going wrong.

I have off loaded the cleaner and got step MIL to come, wish me luck.

The only place I can get nails done well is by a Vietnamese family in town, but they are very harsh on the nail bed apparantley and use imported products which again are very harsh - but they do last. I just wondered if was just me or if everyone struggles to get stuff done as they want it. I must be a bad communicator

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/12/2010 10:24

Onedge, I am not criticising your life choices, but why do you need to have your nails done. I thought, although I may be wrong, that all pretend nails were damamging to the nail bed.

MsSparkle · 16/12/2010 10:28

Could you just grow your own nails and file them to a nice shape? Just a suggestion and it wouldn't cost anything. Plus it would look a lot nicer! I always think false ones, even when done in a "natuaral" way, look tacky.

OnEdge · 16/12/2010 14:27

I like the look of the nails and if i don't have them done , mine tend to snap, so never grow into a nice shape. I just want a good manicure Smile

BusyMisstletoeIzzy · 16/12/2010 15:05

I don't have manicures often, but the few times that I have, I always end up filing them myself when I get home because some are a bit wonky, and often the nail varnish peels off after a day or two. Mainly I like the 'pampering' aspect of it, but it'd be nice to be 100% happy with the result as well.

minibmw2010 · 16/12/2010 15:25

I hope I've misread this .. but you've offloaded the cleaner and got Step MIL to come? To do what, the job of your cleaner ?? If that's the case maybe you could oooh I don't know, do the cleaning yourself and then treat yourself to a manicure knowing you've done a good job?

MsSparkle · 16/12/2010 15:25

They probably snap because they are weak due to having false ones. But you can do what you like, it's none of my businessSmile

I have had my nails painted a couple of times and find it chips the same day because they apply it too thick so would rather do it myself.
