To try to avoid ill people before Christmas?

So, my dps family are due here on Saturday and I know that one has a really bad cold/mild flu and the other has been in very close contact with someone who has been sick today (not sure how they are now)

WWYD? My dd's are 2yo and 10mo and dd1 was ill last Christmas and it was awful for her.

AIBU to ask them not to come if they are still ill? We will see them a few times over Christmas anyway.

Ps Dps family dont see us often, hence I dont really know what to do.

YANBU if your kids are that young. I'm personally not that fussed about sharing other people's germs, but would always give other people the option of cancelling if my dcs were ill.

I'd still bring them to playgroup though, if they felt well enough.

Thank you! I always let people know if we are ill but I know that dp's family dont think about things like that!

Well, kids get ill and you can't really guard against it. I wouldn't say you were BU, but I think its a bit OTT (and I'm speaking as one who has at least one ill child at all times since sodding AUGUST).

Children and adults get ill without coming into contact with ill people too.

Cold / flu bugs live on hard surfaces for hours. Do kids wash their hands every time they touch something outside?

They're you're children so you YANBU to do whatever you think is necessary to try to keep them well. But just bear in mind they may get ill any way. It isn't just people they catch illnesses from.

YANBU. Tell them you don't want people being ill for xmas if avoidable so can they please stay away until better.
