they have hung up their lights in our tree!

OK, I do admit that our tree, in the corner of our front garden, does overhang their garden.

And they have put up their lights in the overhanging branches only ... but BLUE FLASHING LIGHTS?? In OUR TREE??? People might think they are our lights Angry

So AIBU if I sneak in the middle of the the night tonight with a pair of scissors.... Mrs Stubborn is encouraging me, but i am not quite sure...

mogwhistle · 13/12/2010 22:43

YABU where's your Christmas spirit? I take it the neighbours haven't plugged them in to your leccie? Don't see the problem here.

Starisonthetree · 13/12/2010 22:44

If you don't like my blue lights please come and talk to me don't jsut cut them or I will buy a flashing santa...Xmas Wink

CapsizeQueen · 13/12/2010 22:45

Isn't there a rule about overhanging trees and that the fruits belong to the owner of the overhanging bit? Maybe the same applies to the application of fairy lights!

Your house must look like a crime scene. Scissors. Now.

WanderingInAWinterWonderland · 13/12/2010 22:51

You shouldn't let your tree overhang into their garden! Xmas Wink

Maybe they are trying to make a point.

DreamTeamGirl · 13/12/2010 22:52

yes YABU
Trim your tree before next year

Hassledge · 13/12/2010 22:53

Cut their lights and there will be an inflatable Santa on the roof before you can say Ho Ho Ho. It will be Tacky Decorations War.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 13/12/2010 22:53

why dont you deal with your overhanging branches YABU, but I agree with you on the blue lights, I favour a warm white and defo not led. I like to do my bit on boosting global warming..

booyhohoho · 13/12/2010 22:54

i think they are making a point!!

and yes tehy will know it was you. go and trim your tree tomorrow, if their lights get damaged in teh process, then...Ooops!! Grin

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 13/12/2010 23:39

Insulated scissors, if you really have to. Not a good idea to cut electrical cable. Shock

stubbornhubby · 14/12/2010 07:46

Well, Mrs Stubborn's alarm went off at 3am and I put on her woolly dressing gown and crept out into next door's garden...
Result ! I traced the wires back to their letterbox and prizing it open I was able to fish out the LED control box. Blue flashing no longer. White and rippling .
No point talking to them starisonthetree, they are Azerbaijani.

Fantastic bit of stealth Stubborn. Why would anyone's alarm go off at 3am unless accidentally?
The people over the road to us have put up a sort of garland affair of multi coloured lights. DD is very jealous and wants us to get some.
she is also captivated by the 'emptying icicles' of the chocolate shop at the end of our road and is very happy when the traffic stops outside so she can sit and look at them. If only they'd gone up before I would have tracked down a set for her christmas present.

Megletitsnow · 14/12/2010 08:05

Can't you nudge them off with a stick and claim they were sabotaged by squirrels?

LaWeaselMys · 14/12/2010 08:38

Our Christmas lights broke after one night. Suddenly feeling suspicious Hmm they were tasteful White and non flashing I promise!

pawsnclaws · 14/12/2010 11:35

You should think yourself lucky. A friend of a friend bought the house next door to the man known locally as "Mr Christmas". She assumed it was his proper name (not being from the area) until December came round and the full tacky horror of his house and front garden (built up on scaffolding) set her right.

In fairness he raises £1000s for charity every year and my dcs love it, but I wouldn't fancy living next door.

PadmeHum · 14/12/2010 11:42

Moral of the story - trim your tree before 1st December 2011.

Easy. As.

guhdoo · 14/12/2010 12:09

Someone in our block of flats has got santas grotto rammed on to there (tiny) balcony!
DD loves it :)
