Protester Jody McIntyre - who has cerebral palsy - being pulled from his wheelchair onto the road by police at the recent protest.

Disgusting behaviour.

He does have the right to not be handled in a way likely to cause injury though, surely?

well he might be intelligent but he put him self in a dangerous situation.
although I think he should not have been dragged out of his wheelchair, i think he was stupid to get in that situation in the first place.

Was he injured? No.

I havent seen any evidence of the guy looking to be wrapped in cotton wool due to his disability. If you put yourself at the front of a developing riot you have to expect some trouble, which he clearly did.

He probably thought it was going to be a repeat of the previous riot. Turns out he was on the roof for that one along with the twats who threw the fire extinguisher.

What a hero Hmm

Has the Police Officer been charged with assault yet ?. Liberty should start a private prosecution.

AngelZigzagsSparklyYuletideLog · 15/12/2010 23:19

I agree with you ccpccp that he wasn't looking for any special treatment and he knew that emotions might run pretty high because he was at a protest.

But it's the similar attitude you take to LifeForRent in lumping all of the protesters in together that's leading you to the conclusion he somehow deserved to be dragged out of his wheelchair and across the road.

Just because he was on the roof with the fire extinguisher thrower doesn't mean he condoned it, knew the bloke who threw it, or had any criminal or riotous leanings.

And just as you can't make the presumption that all benefit claiments are lying, cheating scumbags, you also can't assume that all protesters are rioters who deserve all they get.

(Grin @ him being a very naughty boy though)

tomhardyismydh · 15/12/2010 23:21

was he dragged out of his wheel chair though??

agreed dragging him across the road was not on but many able bodied people have been dragged acorss roads on similar circumstances and that is eaqualy as wrong as dragging a disabled man across the road.

I do not think the evidance actually shows this man was dragged out of his wheel chair.

so exploiting himself as a vulnerable person and using his disability in this manner is very wrong in my opinion.

AngelZigzagsSparklyYuletideLog · 15/12/2010 23:22

hahahahaha oh, you're such a joker newwave...as bloody if, they wont be able to track him down as per.

Handy that.

"He is a journalist who until recently was writing from Gaza and Bil'in regularly getting teargassed by Israeli forces."

LOL - so what the fuk is he whining about?

I take it all back. Hes not a rioting gobshite student, hes a self promoting PR savvy journo with a taste for the set piece. Even worse.

Will we see more of him? If hes the genuis trapped in a disabled body that you are making out, then perhaps we might. He needs to change the crowds he hangs around with though. Could be quite a statesman when he grows up.

BTW - Disablist is the in use term on MN I think.

He is not exploiting himself! The media have jumped on it because the footage speaks for itself and because Jody already had a high profile in certain circles.

what exactly does the fottage say?

but the fact that he was tipped out of his wheelchair and dragged puts paid to the idea that the police only use violence against violence.

I do not see a man being tipped out of his chair in this footage and Im not sure what you mean by this statement "put paied to the idea"? is it that a man in a wheel chair is not capable of using violence?

ccpccp · 15/12/2010 23:35

" He is a journalist. He writes about these things and what better place than in the thick of it." - yangymac

Perhaps he was just asking that policeman for an interview then, in the first video?

Come on. He was in the thick of it but not as a journalist. Blogging a bit afterwards doesnt excuse his behaviour

he is a journalist? therefore he is not a student so i draw the conclusion then he is an activist, the very type of people who are mostly behving badly on these demos.

tomhardyismydh · 15/12/2010 23:42

i dont agree that is clear from what is shown on any of the footage yangymac.

Saltatrix · 15/12/2010 23:43

There was no reason to drag him out of the wheelchair they have no clue as to why he is in it in the first place just dragging him on the floor like that could cause he a lot of pain.

All he had to do was move the wheelchair, it's not like he is going to get up and run. The fact that the policeman's colleagues then proceeded to drag him away kind of shows they thought he was in the wrong as well.
