...you shouldn't have to stand over them in order to ensure they actually do it?

We got in an external graphic designer to do a fairly simple job here at work. I keep having to send work back, because the fonts are wrong/she's just copied and pasted stuff from the wireframes/there are typos/the margins are wonky etc etc etc.

She just keeps saying 'I do apologise', then failing to deliver on the agreed amends. Isn't attention to detail kind of important for graphic design?

Has she been paid yet? I wouldn't pay her till she'd done it all properly. In fact, I would probably cancel her contract and get someone else to do it isntead.

YANBU, but YAB Too Passive. This calls for a "The quality of your work is insufficient for our requirements, if this continues we will have no option but to discontinue with this contract" followed by a swift sacking if/when required.

No, she hasn't been paid yet. TBH though at this stage it'd be more hassle than it's worth to sack her and get someone else in.

@ Holly - do you do Flash as well as Photoshop? If so, then maybe yes...

I used to be a freelance graphic designer. That level of incompetence, laziness or whatever is totally unacceptable. It might be worth looking at how the decision was made to choose this particular contractor. You should clearly have hired jollyhollly.

But likewise, if you (by which I mean 'one', not you personally!) hire someone to do a job, and they do it to a higher standard than it's every been done before, but you keep changing your mind every 10 seconds and you're paying by hourly rate, then don't be surprised if it costs you a few bob more than the half arsed pile of shit effort you had last time.
