AIBU?

lazy fucking typos

Caron1968 · 10/12/2010 14:02

AIBU to be irritated by posters who make numerous typos and then have the audacity to apologise and say things like "oooooh I am so cross at this my spelling and grammar has gone by the board".
For fucks sake proof read prior to posting. It isn't that difficult.

Abs - sorry, but you mean "N'est-ce pas?"

Don't worry OP, you're not a true mumsnetter until you have been at least lightly flamed - consider this a good toasting maybe? Grammar insults are always a good place to start Grin

If we were talking fucks rather than fuck, wouldn't we have to say "for fucks' sakes" ?

Actually, maybe MNers should proof read. The board would be very different

We wouldn't have time to get into ruckuseseses! We would be too busy checking, and rechecking our posts, and then deciding that we didn't quite like the wording and started again. AIBU would die a death.

Not everyone is sat at their 21-inch monitor and ergonomic keyboard. People post from phones, blackberrys, all sorts - from these it's much harder to type, check and even see what you are posting.

YABU! [fbear]

Too true Abs

You'd start off with a ranty misspelled post with half the facts missing, but by the time you posted it you would only have left:

IABU, thanks everyone!

Or it could start with
"AIBU to think you all smell of poo?"
which would lead to lots of angry typing, then reading, then retyping, then deleting, and all subsequent posts would look like this:
"Yes"
"Biscuit"
"Yes"
"Biscuit"
"Yes"
"Biscuit"
"Yes"
"Biscuit"
"Yes"
"Biscuit"
"YABU"

I think people should occasionally explain their acronyms.

But I dont think writing here needs to be like you would write in a paper or book....

If you insist on spelling, punctuation and good grammar you put a lot of people off.

Booyoo - that would obviously be "Don's hard hat". I assume the lack of the apostrophe eventually led you to the correct interpretation.

I can't be bothered to proof read or preview messages.

It's a fucking interent forum. i have to proof read at work. I can't be arsed to do that here. People understand my posts.

I hate the way people have started apologising for typos as of they are sitting the Oxford entrance exam or something. It's a sodding chat forum not Mastermind.

It's a chat forum. Some people are good at spelling, some people are very bad at typing (me.)

We are getting a whole new class of typos now anyway, because of the iphone's autocorrect.

My favourites I've seen so far on MN are 'Benoit' for 'he put' and 'maids' for NSPCC.

I hate it if I spot a typo just as I press 'post message'. It brings me out in a cold sweat and I sit there with my finger depressed - knowing I can't stop the inevitable, but somehow hoping that if I keep my finger there long enough I can turn back time!

I was anticipating a thread regarding typographical errors induced by idle fornication.

I feel somewhat shortchanged. Xmas Grin

I keep getting auto corrected but my spelling is terrible so I am not sure which is worse.

But if you are going to start thread about spelling you really do need to be sure before you post message.

Prodding the pedants with a big stick isn't a good idea.

Getorfmoiland. Thank you for calling me a wanker for the name. The spelling is in fact Caron which is of welsh origin. So feel free to abuse me for typos, bad spelling, inaccurate viewpoints, pathetic postings etc but give me a break where a name is concerned. Thank you

Caron, you're a brave man! Xmas Grin
I rarely proof-read before pressing post, but I do proof as I go along. Sometimes miss things when in full flow though.

As a confirmed pedant, it pains me whenever I make a mistake - but I don't preview my posts because life is a bit too short for that Grin

Oh, and whilst we're doing the PA bit, it's pedant, not pendant. I thank you. Smile
