AIBU?

lazy fucking typos

Caron1968 · 10/12/2010 14:02

AIBU to be irritated by posters who make numerous typos and then have the audacity to apologise and say things like "oooooh I am so cross at this my spelling and grammar has gone by the board".
For fucks sake proof read prior to posting. It isn't that difficult.

I think I should now retire with shame written all over my face. Never again shall I dare to create a thread on MN. I feel like the weedy kid at school who got picked last for football in the playground.

I do proof read, but I often don't notice mistakes until I post.

"the audacity to apologise" - yeah, some people and their fucking cheek, right? They actually have the nerve to say sorry about their mistakes. Fuckers!

"oooooh I am so cross at this my spelling and grammar has gone by the board".
What does this mean?

Meh. Typos on MN - forgivable, especially when it's the heat of the moment and you're arguing with someone.

But, work emails Envy

Humm, I really must question the aprostphy is 'fuck's sake'.

By my understading, the ' is to show posession - does the sake belong to the fuck?

I am thinking it is fucks sake....

Caron you just started this thread to see how many replies you would get didn't you? You knew we would all bite.

PsecretSantead · 10/12/2010 14:20

I always write 'typoes'. Who knows? Defo not with apostrophe though, unless typo(e)s have possession of whatever it is.

Clear as mud, ho hum.

AbsofCroissant · 10/12/2010 14:20

What about fucks' sake?

Nah, it should be fuck's sake. Because of it is for the sake of fuck. N'est pas?

I think it is for the sake of fuck. You say for God's sake, for Pete's sake etc, so it follows that for fuck's sake is correct.

"Kick me while I am down unquietdad."

Surely you had some inkling of the kind of response you would get after posting an adversarial title and op?

Report
olderyetwider · 10/12/2010 14:23

It is the sake belonging to fuck, toddlerwrangler.

No apostrophe in typos (plural, not posession)

Report
toddlerwrangler · 10/12/2010 14:23

AbsofCroissant - I don't think it is fuck's sake, because then it would be posessive to two fucks?

Hummm, I use a horse board and there ae some HARDCORE grammer pendants on there, however swearing is very frowned upon. Still I need answers!

Report
toddlerwrangler · 10/12/2010 14:24

Actually, you have all brought me round.

Fuck's sake it is.

Report
olderyetwider · 10/12/2010 14:24

Absof croissant, fucks' sake would be correct if there were more than one fuck.

Report
PsecretSantead · 10/12/2010 14:24

Fucks' sake would be two or more fucks. Fuck's sake is one.

Caron1968 - AIBU is a question!

Surely therefore, the first sentence in your OP should have ended in a question mark?

Eh?

Eh?

You are missing a question mark and an apostrophe.

Kindly check your work more carefully before posting again.

AbsofCroissant · 10/12/2010 14:26

Exacto.

I am now pro-typos on MN after someone gave me a dressing down on the Politics board for a typo, and I felt very miffed

So how many fucks are we talking about?
