Personally I wanted to know that I could put it in and take it when I wasn't going to be relying on it to be in properly and do its job - and when I knew there wasn't going to be anything to spill all over the floor...

Plus it gave me a chance to do some strategic stem trimming (all of it in my case) before I needed it.
