We ran out of bread last night so asked him to stop at the shop and get a loaf so I can have brekkie (can only eat toast in morning)

He had 3 10ps a 20p and a 5p.

I had nothing on me except an emergency £20 not for gas/electric.

So raided the penny tup and got another £1 in 5ps.

He looked at me like I was mad and asked if I couldn't wait till he got back and we'd go to the vilage shops (a 20 min walk) with the card.

Which means I wouldn't get brekkie till lunch time as we have shopping to do!!
Its change FGS the shop would probably be grateful for it!!

Must be a man thing, I always count out the change but DP will use a note, drives me mad!

OK if I gave him a pag of pennies then I can see his point (almost) but nice shiney 5ps?? surely not?!

As long as he wasn't planning to stand at the front of a long queue and spend ten minutes rifling through his wallet mumbling about how he's sure there's another 2p in there somewhere - no problem.

My oh did this a while ago in boots, the thing we needed was 99p, so I gave them the correct change. He asked me if we were poor

Most shops welcome change anyway, saves them going to the bank to get it

Don't see the problem. DH has a "thing" about using all his loose and small change rather than paying with a note and getting any more change - so he'll happily stand in a queue counting out the small silver rather than handing over a fiver and getting on with it. That's just as annoying, tbh, if I'm with him at the time.

My dh will quite willingly pay with all the change. I'm the one that doesn't like it...I worry that the price will have gone up 5p since I was last in and I won't have enough

There are legal limits of coins -if its 5ps OK but less the shop could refuse the money!

I doubt any shops would and your OH should just use up the change.

Of course YANBU, he was. I do drive my dH demented by trying to use the right money rather than have a kilo of shrapnel in my purse.
He, on the other hand, will use whatever paper money he has then dump the coins somewhere for DD to get her grubby little mitts on. She is really sticky fingered and had about 14 euros of coins in ridiculously small denominations. And she knew to the cent how much there was.

It's the judgey pants factor- ooh, only got shrapnel, you must be really broke.

A penny pinching man is somehow seen as worse than a female 'being careful' in a blokes opinion apparently.
