Or are our neighbours really thick?

the snow in our street has become really compacted, and it is like a ice rink, really quite thick.
Some of our neighbours are digging at it with spades to try and loosen it, and now someone has just sprayed cold water over the road. It's -4 according to my car, wont this just freeze again?

can anyone compete with that?

Erm. Maybe it has anti-freeze in?

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 07/12/2010 19:34

bigchris · 07/12/2010 19:35

lilyliz · 07/12/2010 19:39

It has to be antifreeze or something. No one's that thick, are they?

canyou · 07/12/2010 19:46

Could they have put out this My neighbour did and had to show people it was deicer and then got given out to as it was not eco friendly poor man was in a lose/lose situation

masochismTangoer · 07/12/2010 19:48

People on corner - getting car de-iced keep pouring hot water from kettle on it. Runs of drive - which, is sloped, onto footpath and road. We missed snow but had bad frosts not been above zero for days.

It is on a school route, route to local shop and is a road corner. Ice is invisible. Seen their car lose grip as come down drive, seen cars round corner skid and motor bike go over, heard from several people that old couple had a serious fall, seen school and preschool DC on school/nursery go over.

There must be ice all down their drive - the ice is not melting and every morning they add to it. I assume they must want an ice rink.

Brighterlife · 07/12/2010 19:58

definatly not deicer
connected to OUTSIDE tap?????
is on a corner, and worse than that it's the only road in & out of the estate!

masochism -we have neighbours who keep pouring hot water over their cars to de-ice them .

Its so bloody dangerous as it just freezes on the ground straight away (it was -9 this morning). Its lethal everytime you step out of the car, especially in the dark when you can't see the patches of ice

Am I mean to hope that they might crack their windscreen Shock Wink

I have my fingers crossed Xmas Grin.

"masochism -we have neighbours who keep pouring hot water over their cars to de-ice them ."

I do this too, though just slightly warm water. It only runs on to my drive though, so no harm done as far as anybody else is concerned.

It might not be hot water - even cold water appears to steam when poured on a frozen windscreen.

"It might not be hot water - even cold water appears to steam when poured on a frozen windscreen."

Dam. I got my hopes up then.

It is obviously only a problem due to the location and steep drive. I can avoid it with DC but do feel for the old couple and all the other old people venturing out even at warmest time of day to get to local shop to get essentials and encountering the ice rink with no warning.

I realised that as I tipped a kettle full of cool water on my car, that some neighbour is probably watching me with glee, just waiting for the windscreen to crack Wink

If our drive sloped on to the road I wouldn't do it though.. that would be very stupid.
