a bit naive or a bit dim?

I'm neither a troll nor 2bubs4me so no hunting. Grin

I dont remember ever believing in Santa, and I remember quite a lot from my pre-school years. I knew the size of the Earth, the number of people and the impossibility of the logistics of 'Santa'. I also knew better than to beleive everything my parents said Sad.

My DS is basically the same. I understand that 3yo's believe - it's cute, but I think it's a bit creepy when 8+yo's still do.

But I would never actually criticise a parent for having such deluded sheltered DCs.

And last year it was a December thread, yet this year we have to haveit in mid-November?

I agree with TrillianAstra's posts up there ^. All of them.

OP OF COURSE A CHILD AGED 6/7 SHOULD NOT BELIEVE IN SANTA, THEY SHOULD BE GETTING PLAYBOY BUNNY PADDED BRAS AND MAKE UP OR JOINING A GANG TO DO SOME DRIVE BY OR SOMETHING

OhDoAdmit · 14/11/2011 08:59

If we didnt have Santa to threaten the kids with how on earth would we get them to behave in Decemeber?

I cant be the only one who reaches for the phone with 'I am going to call him if you dont stop !'

exoticfruits · 14/11/2011 09:09

I would never use him as a threat. He comes to everyone-he doesn't differentiate in my book.

Oh God i do! I couldnt get through Decemeber without wielding him like the Sword of Damacles.

OhDoAdmit · 14/11/2011 09:38

December (Damacles might be spelt wrong too but meh to that)

OhDoAdmit · 14/11/2011 09:40

It IS an old thread. I was wondering where all the Santa smilies were coming from. I suppose it saves someone starting a new one though - recycling and all that?

mumeeee · 14/11/2011 10:06

OP YABU. I have 3 DD's who all believed past 7. well DD 1 was nearly 8 the other 2 were 10 and 11. my nieces and nephews stopped between 8 and 10. But in all our families we have always. said that FC only brings stocking stuff.

exoticfruits · 14/11/2011 10:14

I don't see how he is a lovely, magical, twinkly figure who loves DCs if he gets all judgemental and will leave DCs out if they don't conform. I would rather not have him.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 14/11/2011 10:20

When DH and I stay at my dad's for Christmas we get a stocking. I'm 28. He's 38!

Keep the naïveté and innocence going!

YABVVU OP, and a bit strange.

I'm going to keep DD believing in Santa for as long as possible. She's 1 so I've got a bit of time Wink

mumeeee · 14/11/2011 10:20

Just seen this is an old thread. Oh well what I said still applies. . My DD's are Noel 24. 21 and 19. We still do stockings and all pretend.

aldiwhore · 14/11/2011 11:16

My son's 8, neither niave or slow, and chooses to believe. Only because among his peers FC's existence has yet to be discussed.

Its simply still a given that he does.

GooseyLoosey · 14/11/2011 11:22

ds (8) also believes as does dd (7). They know that some of their friends do not believe and don't discuss it with them as a result.

I have gone to great lengths to make it seem magical and real to them and will continue to do so as long as they enjoy it.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 14/11/2011 11:28

WHY do people drag up old threads??

my 8 yo is naive. I wouldn't have her any other way.

RainboweBrite · 14/11/2011 11:37

Personally, I think it's lovely that my 9 year old DS still believes in Santa. I stopped believing at 7, and that's when the magic of Christmas faded for me. I reckon this will probably be his last year to believe and I want to make it as special as I can for him.
YABU for saying all children who believe past 6/7 are naive or dim, btw.

CardyMow · 14/11/2011 11:55

DD still believed last Christmas when she was 12.9yo - but she has SN. Unfortunately, she no longer believes this year. Sad.

DS1 is VERY clever, most definately not dim, on G&T register at school blah blah blah - he still believed last Christmas when he was 8.7yo. He no longer believes this year either. Double Sad.

DS2 still believes this year, and he is going to be 8.1yo at Christmas. He is not dim either - just still believes in the 'magic'.

Have a Biscuit.

Animation · 14/11/2011 12:30

"OP you are a bit dim."

Grin Well - you've got to laugh. It does sound a bit sterile and clinical in your house at Christmas OP!!

Animation · 14/11/2011 12:32

BA HUMBUG!!

Watch out for the three ghosts coming to pay you a visit. Wink

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 14/11/2011 12:36

my older 2 dcs 7 and 5 not only believe in father christmas they also think that the burglar arms sensors in our house are cameras that record bad behaviour for santa. Maybe this mkae them dim but I dont care they behave wonderfully in December at least in al the rooms that have sensors.

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 14/11/2011 12:37

alarm a burglar arm sensor would be odd
