To not like being fed leftovers when I am a guest?

Or am I being precious? We went to see some friends for an afternoon, for something to eat while the children play. So not expecting a big meal, just snacks.

What is produced is 'cheese & biscuits'. Which is fine. But every bit of cheese has already been hacked about and partially eaten. So it appears to be leftovers from another meal.

AIBU to expect that if you have guests and are serving them cheese and biscuits, you either cut a chunk off a larger block from your well-stocked pantry (my preferred option... Wink) or nip out and buy a few new lumps of cheese to serve up?

cheese is cheese. Unless it had nibble marks, I thinnk YABU Grin

NordicPrincess · 03/12/2010 13:35

are you sure they had been taken off another meals plate? maybe they were just off ends of cheese left in the fridge and she thought it was a good way to use up the last bits.

I think you should just have enjoyed and cheese and been grateful-unless you saw it on someone elses plate first!

PuppyMonkey · 03/12/2010 13:35

It's not "leftover" cheese. It's the cheese. Why buy new when you've already got some in?

tinierclanger · 03/12/2010 13:35

You are being superU.

lorelilee · 03/12/2010 13:36

The clue is in the word 'friends'. My friends know to take me as I find them and vice versa. YABVU and precious.

lorelilee · 03/12/2010 13:36

that wasn't meant to be a riddle, but you get the point......

AitchTwoOh · 03/12/2010 13:36

FanjoKazooie · 03/12/2010 13:37

YANBU if the cheese has actual teethmarks and dribble on it. Otherwise YABU.

StealthPolarBear · 03/12/2010 13:37

agree with PM! do you always use the whole block of cheese when you have some cheese?

RubyRoseRed · 03/12/2010 13:38

Depends how nibbled they are I guess. Hacked about is ok if with a knife but if someone had actually been nibbling at then with their teeth thats quite odd!

RockinRobinBird · 03/12/2010 13:38

Confused So if I have a packet of cheese in the fridge which has the ends chopped off, you don't want any?

Unless it has actually been swept from other people's plates or has teeth marks in then YABU. I don't really know what you expect.

Ariesgirl · 03/12/2010 13:40

Goodness! How appalling. Whenever anyone comes round I ensure that everything I give them shows no sign of prior use whatsoever. And I also fold little corners on the toilet rolls.

Hmm
harassedinhertinselpants · 03/12/2010 13:40

YABU - It's not leftovers, it's just cheese.

alfabetty · 03/12/2010 13:41

No teeth marks... no dribble

But not neatly cut up, or a slice or two taken, but sort of chunks spooned out of some of the pieces, quite small bits, cut about from all angles.

And we don't have leftover cheese in this house... just very full tummies Smile

"So if I have a packet of cheese in the fridge which has the ends chopped off, you don't want any?"

My thoughts exactly - cheese where some of the block has been used is not leftovers, it's just cheese.

MemooMerrilyOnHigh · 03/12/2010 13:45

I thought you'd been eating scraps off last nights dinner plates or something!!

yabu

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 03/12/2010 13:47

YABU. And hilarious. I hope intentionally.

Serendippy · 03/12/2010 13:50

YABU. Leftovers is food that has been cooked and served which did not get eaten. Cheese which has previously been opened is... well, just that!

MaDugHerDecsOut · 03/12/2010 13:50

Yabu. Did you know that the cheese you buy comes from an even bigger block? so in fact you are eating 3rd hand cheese! ohmygoodness!

QueeferSantaland · 03/12/2010 13:51

WTF?

YABVVU.

Have you never been offered cheese from a trolley or board in a restaurant? They don't open a whole vacherin for every customer ffs.

alfabetty · 03/12/2010 13:52

Well. I suspected I may be being unreasonable.

But it was a genuine reaction Confused. Half a pot of coleslaw, too.

SantasENormaSnob · 03/12/2010 13:52

Yabu

How the fuck can cheese be described as left overs Confused

Serendippy · 03/12/2010 13:53

Good grief, imagine them wanting to finish things that were open before opening new stuff and then having to throw food out! Get yourself some new, less stingy friends, NOW Grin

Gogopops · 03/12/2010 13:54

Were there teeth marks in it? Might have been mice!!Confused
