To send Christmas Cards to...

...the neighbours (even the ones I have never spoken to) for the first time even though we have lived here for 3 years?

My nan used to do this to ensure the base for a good relationship between neighbours was there and I have always wanted to do it because it's a nice thing to do. However previously I was working full time and never found time to do it but I am on mat leave this year so I could if I wanted but I'm not sure if it's appropriate.

Will they be thinking "What does she want" or am I over thinking this?

Take it there yourself and introduce yourself too, saying that it's about time you did. Maybe they are nice!

I always send cards to the neighbours in our cul de sac, even the ones I don't know, because - if nothing else - we see them around all year.

I like to pop a card into the neighbours, there are only 6 houses in our courtyard so it's not too difficult. Though I don't know everyone's name!

I'm thinking the same, third christmas here and on mat leave now. Need suggestions as to how to find out their names though? Its not that I intentionally never speak to them, I just NEVER see them!!

Do it; soon so that they can reciprocate if they want.

When we got a new neighbour she put round cards saying something like 'Best wishes to all at No 10 from Sue, Mark, Sam and Ella at No 1'

So we were then able to send one similar back to them, and the ice being broken we actually started talking

Any unsocial neighbours will just ignore.

I did that when I moved into DH's house with him (he had lived there for 10 yrs previously). I really like knowing my neighbours names and with many of them it broke the ice.

I have since cut back on Christmas cards, so I no longer send one to all of them but it is a good way of letting them know your names, at least, if they are at all interested.
