We are fantastic. We didn't lie, we didn't cheat, we didn't backstab. It was a great bid, football fans were behind it, it was honest, it was full of effort and hard work. I would rather do the right thing and lose than engineer, bully, threaten and bribe to win.

Well done us.

Who is suggesting we are whiter than white?

I am suggesting we conducted ourselves a damn sight better than others. It's impossible for you to contemplat. A balancer? To the scale of what happens in Russia and China? You have to be joking.

Mollie there's fair chance a very good chance --- that after the suspensions Britain thought the issue was being dealt with. You trust that people will act as you act: you transpose onto others you own sense of fair play. Perhaps it was stupid not to know the Russians and the whole of Fifa was so embedded in corruption that they could say this big, giant, fuck you. In that case iit's surprising that people arent saying that, instead of, yes but we're as bad.

I am white and proud. I agree with the OP. Too much England knocking. No one else as small as us managed to get such a large Empire and teach most of the world about simple old Fair Play and Common Decency.

fallingandlaughing · 03/12/2010 19:54

snort

Ormirian · 03/12/2010 20:19

Ah hully! Such admirable self-assurance. I am suitably middle class so I feel white and slightly embarrassed about it

FellatioNelson · 03/12/2010 20:54

DH has just told me that the ruomour mill says this: We didn't get it because the 2014 World Cup has been awarded to Brazil but Fifa do not think they will be ready in time so we have been earmarked as emergency back-up hosts because we already have the infrastructure in place and can pull it off at short notice after the Olympics. I have no idea whether this is crap or not, but thought I'd throw it in anyway!

CraigRevelPan · 03/12/2010 21:09

umm... probably file under crap. I'm afraid!!

Hully? Double snort. We arguably taught the world how to pillage the resouces of people weaker than ourselves, murder them, subjugate them and make it look as if we are doing them a favour. Our 'great navy' were nothing more than pirates under national licence, and the English decimation of nations closer to home ( Scotland, Ireland and Wales) was nothing short of barbaric. Fair Play and Common Decency??

Treble snort. Which history books were you brought up on?? Hmm

Desiderata · 03/12/2010 21:10

Oh, fuck off Craig!

Desiderata · 03/12/2010 21:11

Ignore Pan. He always spouts shite.

ivykaty44 · 03/12/2010 21:13

we will actually do far better now Quater has got the 22 gameas as the building work will be there for the taking

I have been to wembley and thought it was blardy awful and a disgrace as a national stadium espically with the disorganisation on getting out of the ground - 2 hours queing to get out..stupid nightmare and dangerous - whoever designed it wants shot

Desiderata · 03/12/2010 21:23

I'm proud of the way we went about it, but rather glad we didn't get it.

I live in Bristol, and they were/are going to rip up green belt in order to build a new stadium to hopefully accommodate the World Cup.

Since Bristol City are one of the worse football teams in the UK, and don't deserve a new stadium on their own merits, it would now seem that a small portion of our green and pleasant land will remain intact for a while longer.

Hullygully · 03/12/2010 23:16

I am fed up with the doer-downers talking down the green and pleasant land (courtesy of Desiderata), we should be proud of our heritage and stand up for the Queen.

EldritchCleavage · 05/12/2010 15:01

I've got to agree with Craig on the Empire:astonishing achievement for such a small nation, but there was nothing moral about it.

Mind you, the French were worse. My father always says he's very glad he was born in an Anglophone rather than a Francophone colony Relatively little cultural imperialism except for cricket (which he loves).

Hullygully · 05/12/2010 15:37

Cricket...and: imposed models of "democracy" and civil service systems, Christianity (of the worst sort), artificial boundaries of new "countries," the liddle old Partition..

Hullygully · 05/12/2010 15:38

At least that's what the critics say. Huh! I say. We brought peace, prosperity and the Way of the White Man.

Appletrees · 05/12/2010 15:41

Yes. That means we're morally corrupt and as evil as any nation under the sun always and forever amen. You should be ashamed of yourelf Hully.

EldritchCleavage · 05/12/2010 15:41

You weirdo!

Hullygully · 05/12/2010 15:43

What's my elf been up to now?

Appletrees · 05/12/2010 16:18

Oh shame on you hully ..how can you try to be wry and amusing when burdened with such guilt..perhaps it's your way of wiping your memory of it all. How can you ever be happy or pleased with yourself -- it's impossible to imagine.

FellatioNelson · 06/12/2010 09:36

She's funny though.

Appletrees · 06/12/2010 10:38

Yes sure, it's as amusing as doing a Heil Hitler salute every time you see a German looking self-satisfied Smile football hooligan humour
