oh god what a horrible, smug, ignorant, and ill informed article. The stereotype of the families living on the council estate nearly made me sick.

How can we possibly move forward with generalisations like those thrown about.

IDontLikeDisciples · 03/12/2010 01:22

HUGE and very amusing thread about this in chat, though it descended into a bitch fest about her legs, predictably.

IDontLikeDisciples · 03/12/2010 01:23

linkage

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 03/12/2010 01:23

really - a bitch fest about her legs - not about benefits claimants wanting "babyeees"?????? really???

IDontLikeDisciples · 03/12/2010 01:26

Are you surprised? It's mumsnet, shit happens.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 03/12/2010 01:28

yes I am suprised - things have obviously calmed down a little since the spending review then.

It was sheer hell on any thread that mentioned benefits for several weeks. I assumed this would also turn into the same anti scroungers lovefest Smile

BertieBotts · 03/12/2010 01:28

I gave up after this bit:

"But her children weren?t dropped on her doorstep by the stork. She may have got pregnant accidentally the first time, but after that it was her decision to get pregnant again and again. Without benefits, would she have had such a cavalier attitude?"

I believe that the stats showed that actually yes people do tend to have as many children as they want to even before housing benefit etc was brought in. Maybe it's something to do with wanting a family rather than wanting the perfect family with every latest gadget and toy and perfect brand new clothes all the time etc.

IDontLikeDisciples · 03/12/2010 01:31

Yes, very unusual, it was all rather sensible until the shoes/ plates of meat/ legs comments...

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 03/12/2010 01:35

blimey - yes just reading it - actually what a pleasant surprise - guess it goes to show than in among the fierce some debates about the topic here on MN most people aren't so stupid to think it's as black and white as she makes it out to be (all those poor buggers on the council estate, none of them working and all churning out baybeees).

The shoes/tights/legs thing is quite funny Grin

BertieBotts · 03/12/2010 01:43

The other thread is classic Grin
