To wish people would stop bloody moaning about a bit of snow

Seriously in London we get like 2 inches and everyones moaning, the news is full of exclamation marks in triangles and moaning about how are people going to get to work and talking to moaning idiots in the streets complaining that it's cold, (people wearing skinny jeans, fashion boots and normal winter jackets, idiots!).

Anyway too much moaning, too many idiots looking for any excuse to close schools and stay home, too many people who want to moan about it being too cold to go out instead of investing in some proper winter gear and letting some air out the tyres.

And why do we still put up with this countries reliance on out dated third rail systems that grind to a halt at the slightest thing, no one else in the world is still using that 80 odd year old system, they realised it was crap, so why are we still using it?.

I can't help but wonder why year after year we are like this, countries are laughing at us, nation full of lazy moaners.

To be fair, weather conditions like this are not planned for because they are uncommon, the last time we had snow this early in the year was 1963.

Schools close as the Headteachers are responsible for making the site safe, and they can't hire snow ploughs at such short notice.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 12:43

yes - it's in London where the council have done f*ck all to keep the roads safe

\link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/11890929\scrollalong to the bus pictures}

thank god it was the late night buses and presumably no-one was hurt.

Canella · 02/12/2010 12:46

Baroqin - the snowsuit that i'm wearing came from Aldi in the UK over 2 years ago and cost £40! and i plan to wear it for years! i agree that there is really expensive stuff out there but there is also much more reasonable stuff too!

myheadisconfused · 02/12/2010 12:48

However, GettinTrimmer, there was plenty of notice from the Met Office. They were talking about this snowfall for weeks before it happened.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2010 12:49

I am in South London and have 2 feet of snow. Am I allowed to complain?

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 12:50

£40 - that's nice for you.

The "normal" winter jacket I'm wearing is a Fat Face one that was given to me for free (which I'm rather pleased about as I've not seen anything as warm in the charity shops this year - sadly no hood - but a £2 hat from the market sorted that problem out Grin

Foxy800 · 02/12/2010 12:50

Sorry but I think some people are moaning because it is so dangerous, I have been able to work for 2 days so may not get paid which means bills may not be paid, schools are closed, roads are like ice rinks so not safe!!! Sorry but where we are it has gone past fun snow!!!

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 12:52

yes there was plenty of notice - but you can't expect the schools to fork out for plough hire "incase" it snows.

FWIW - we've had snow this morning and the Met Office said it wasn't going to snow here at all......and it still said that while it was snowing.

It was supposed to snow (quite heavily) at the weekend and we got about 1/2 a cm

onceamai · 02/12/2010 12:52

Ryoko I actually find it quite offensive to be labelled lazy. Both my children's schools are open - one uses the tube and could get there. The other is an awkward journey up a very steep hill which is a primary road and hadn't been gritted - six buses were stuck on it this morning. The alternative route was impassable and at that point we came home because i had serious concerns about the return journey at the end of the day even if I had told ds to walk the last mile.

BTW I have a full time job, two dc at two different schools, a DH who weekly commutes and large but very well kept house. I work very very hard indeed and would be there today if it wasn't closed. I would have walked but I understand and accept the reasons why it is closed.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 12:53

Though I should add even my North Face boots although lovely and warm still don't really help on the ice.

messylittlemonkey · 02/12/2010 12:54

Grrrrr, there's more than just a bit here in York. It's been on the ground since middle of last week and I'm fed up of it now. School's closed, 2 DDs cooped up indoors, really need to get to supermarket etc...

sterrryerryoh · 02/12/2010 12:58

To be honest, I think some of us are entitled to have a bit of a moan, actually

SantasMooningArse · 02/12/2010 12:58

I think stoicism can go too far; my kids just left their school on a trip just as the sky clouds over for another round of snow.... we'll ahve to fetch them ourselves and the roads here become unsafe quickly.

But equally IKWYM; if it's sunny it's too hot, rainy too wet, and whilst snow can make things ahrd, cold weather in December is normal and that's why I have my very ugly but warm ski jacket.

So, unless you are somewhere with extreme weather or it's causing you real issues (some SN aprents I know are panickiing becuase the LEA ships their kids off to schools 30 miles away then the transport is pulled with teh first flake and the taxi they need costs them ££££££££), YANBU.

Kaloki · 02/12/2010 12:59

I'll bitch and moan about it all I like. Was meant to be going to visit my friend today, but where she lives is snowed in (and very hilly, so not safe to drive around). We were all going to go out and celebrate DH's birthday. :(

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 12:59

Ryoko - II hope you've never moaned when it's too hot.........because you know those people in hot countries cope just fine with the heat......

SirBoobAlot · 02/12/2010 12:59

Got ten inches here, can't get out of the road.

I am therefore allowed to moan Xmas Grin

If I see one more happy facebook status about snow, I might loose the plot.

MeowyChristmasEveryone · 02/12/2010 13:00

This is my post from another similar thread.

Asking Austria, or Canada or Russia is no good.

Britain is in a particular position because of the temperature fluctuations and the fact that this generally lasts days rather than weeks or months.

Regardless of whether you currently own one, if you didn't, would you be happy with your (or DH's) employer INSISTING that you buy a 4x4 vehicle, or move closer to work?!?!

This is how it still is in the countries listed above EXACTLY BECAUSE their snow lasts so long, but we are not likely to spend personal or public funds for something that only MIGHT happen for one or two weeks every few years. No-one would argue with the assertion that this bad snow is rare compared with the last 10 years or so. Maybe this is the sign of things to come, but until it does happen more regularly and for longer, we'll just have to suck it up.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 02/12/2010 13:00

oh fancy that you did earlier this year.

God I wish people would stop bloody moaning when it's hot and sunny here in the UK Wink

MummyBerryJuice · 02/12/2010 13:01

All you moaners come and join the rest of us on the snow haters thread!

MummyBerryJuice · 02/12/2010 13:07

Here we are.

this is unexpected (to some extent) and extreme (at least here in the North). I met a man on our walk this morning who has lived in our village for 30 years and he says he has NEVER see it this bad. The mainroad into town, the A169, has been closed since Sunday. It may not be terrible in the South but it is here

I've gone off the snow but only because some git stole DS2's sledge! Angry

Ryoko · 02/12/2010 13:13

You are lazy, you are lazy because all you do is moan.

Why are you not holding the council to account for not gritting the roads or having people out shoveling?.

Lazy because you put up with funding the train shareholders bubbly instead improving the network.

You are lazy because you put up with it and just moan. we need to be more like he French and hold people to account and fight for a good service.

OP posts:
onceamai · 02/12/2010 13:17

Ryoko - I telephoned both relevant councils.

I shall say again. Please do not call me lazy. You know nothing about me. furthermore perhaps I have more important things to worry about than holding others to account.

Ryoko, have a Biscuit
