to take my children to school?

I have just come off the phone with my mum, she told me I've endangered the children and should heed her words for the future. This has really upset me.
I was telling her that I'd had a testing day yesterday, I took dd1 to school, along with ds age 3 and dd2 age 1. It was snowing so it was hard work (I have a leg injury where cold weather exacerbates pain). Well we trudged up to school in the snow (dd2 in sling) then went back after lunch to take ds to preschool and then back an hour and a half later (ds was I'll, collected dd1 at the same time).
DH was away dealing with some stuff for my recently deceased dad (mum divorced from him for 29 years) but was worried about him travelling in the snow.
AIbU to take the children to school, or should we have battened down the hatches and stayed at home?

Thank you for answering. That was the judgement I made. It's an easily walkable distance. I know the children are little, and know that since they've lost their grandad I've tried to keep to their "routine"; but would always try to do the best for the children.
I just feel upset that she thinks the walk was endangering the children ( mum is a social worker, two little ones have asthma - think that's everything).

I'm trying to work out what danger she has in mind when children (assuming properly clad) are walking a short familiar route with their mother. IMHO she's being completely bizarre.

You can have a lot of fun walking to school on snowy days!

The thing is, this weather could continue off and on until March or something next year. We all have to try and continue as normally as possible. It could also keep happening year after year due to the weakening of the gulf stream, so we all have to get used to coping with it.

As long as your dcs are coping then you should carry on doing what you're doing. My ds1 was appalled when I sent him out to catch the bus to school when it was snowing, but he's got used to it now and understands that life goes on and giving in is just plain silly.

Thank you. I think she was concerned about two things. 1. Baby in sling, in case I fall over in the snow 2. The cold weather making the children unwell
Dd1 only started school last year, I do try hard to ensure that she has a good attendance rate, but do find it hard to juggle the needs of all three children. We live pretty close to the school, so if teachers and other parents and children can make it in, I thought I was doing the right thing.

With regard to the asthma, they do need extra puffs of the inhaler in this weather, it's always going to be a tough call. I did give ds an extra puff of his inhaler when we got home, but just because he had a cough not because he was wheezy.
Think I'm just a bit fed up because I expected a bit of tlc. Thank you- onwards.

Thank you, I don't usually let mums comments bother me, I'm probably just feeling a bit more vulnerable than usual.

That's really helpful stewie - we are still finding the right way to treat the asthma, my gut reaction is to give less/minimal puffs but if they seem wheezy do extra. Took ds to docs today and he advised doubling up on puffs, so will give that a go.
