Xmas Blush Seeing as the DDs don't want one for Christmas?

DD1 (4 y o): I don't want a princess, I don't know what they're for

DD2 (3 y o): Noooo! I wanted a digger and a garbage truck!

I'm 28 years old, and I think I'd describe myself as a feminist, and deep down I know that they are overpriced plastic tat but but but... they're just gorgeous, and have lovely dresses and I just want one of these ?

AIBU? Xmas Grin

YABU

There may be some dolls which are gorgeous but Disney princess dolls aren't.

Now if you were talking about wanting to buy yourself a plush tiger or whatever, that would be entirely different...

Purplebuns · 01/12/2010 10:33

I was trying to convince myself that I DD (almost 19months) needs a Mermaid Barbie that swims in the bath... :o
(I never got one when I was little :()

So YANBU however, if you had asked me two weeks ago I would have called you a loon Xmas Wink

YABU.

There are far more gorgeous dolls then those!

thequimreaper · 01/12/2010 15:27

Purple buns don't bother. DD got one for her birthday and it doesn't swim - just kind of floats on its side!

curlymama · 01/12/2010 15:28

YANBU.

I made DH buy me a build a bear a couple of weeks ago.

ShanahansRevenge · 01/12/2010 15:48

YANBU...I love dolls but excuse myself from weirdness by only buying the odd vintage one...when I get more than 5 I sell them on Ebay...so it's not a "doll collection"

My DD 1 is only interested in drawing and maikng and DD2 wants a train set and a tool kit for christmas.

FindingMyMojo · 01/12/2010 15:51

I am the opposite DD would love one & I'm being mean Mummy and steering her towards anything but a bloody princess doll - puke!

chipmonkey · 01/12/2010 16:17

LOL!Grin I thought Iwas missimg out on this stuff by having boys but clearly sometimes you can miss out even with girls!

btw, scouser, your dd's sound brilliant! Litlle feminists in the making.Smile

FindingMyMojo · 01/12/2010 16:18

well she'd love one if she knew they existed (evil Mum plots to keep all princess/barbie etc advertising away from DD for as long as bloody possible)

SpotSplatterSplash · 01/12/2010 16:26

YANBU Grin

OR you could do what I do and buy them and force them on my DD (21 months at Christmas) as presents.

She would definitely rather have her older brother's cars. I figure she has the best of both worlds!

fluffywhitekittens · 01/12/2010 16:41

Come and play here with dds :)
I was going to avoid all Disney Princess but last year decided they were a better option than the evil that is Barbie, this year, in our Princess and Barbie filled house, at least it's not Bratz (fsmile)

SpotSplatterSplash · 01/12/2010 21:55

I think I must have been inadequately ingrained with pink or something.

I always wanted to not give in to the disney, dolls and pink stuff, but it calls to me after having a very 'boyish' DS and three nephews.

scouserabroad · 01/12/2010 22:22

Hmm, seems that IANBU Wink I know I am really!

Chipmonkey your're right, my DDs are brilliant Grin

stretchmummy · 01/12/2010 22:25

i just bunged Snow White and Cinderella in the charity bag if anybody wants them.

Simbacatlives · 01/12/2010 22:26

Are you in debt?

If not spend your money on what you want

But disney dolls are tat and the heads fall off

Honeydragon · 01/12/2010 22:30

DD is getting a stella doll for her first birthday .... if she is good I will let her play with it, even ds thinks its cute, and have wanted to get one for aaaaaaages. Xmas Blush

TheBolter · 01/12/2010 22:33

I wasn't allowed Barbie when I was growing up so I practically gorged myself on them as soon as dd1 was old enough, in the mistaken belief that they were for dd1.

She is now completely indifferent to them Hmm.

CoteDAzur · 01/12/2010 22:35

YABU. Act your age, woman Xmas Wink

SpotSplatterSplash · 02/12/2010 08:25

Hmmm, Stella is v v cute......

Hulababy · 02/12/2010 08:36

I am sure DD loves her Sylvanian Families toys lots - but I do wish she'd stop messing up the rooms int he houses after I have spent half an afternoon sorting them to make them look nice Grin

woopsidaisy · 02/12/2010 08:54

I say get it! I have been hankering after one of [[http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-VINTAGE-G1-MY-LITTLE-PONY-BOW-TIE-SNOWFLAKE-CHERRIES-/350416862344?pt=UK_Toys_Creative_Educational_RL&hash=item519678fc88 these] for years. Don't know why, perhaps because I really wanted one when little. Would love to brush their hair/manes and stuff...
And think of the fun you could have dressing her up! Sigh....

SpotSplatterSplash · 02/12/2010 09:06

Grin Hulababy, I would be like that (poor DD). DS actually has more interest in playing with the dolls than she does.

My Mum bougtt DD a MLP, it does bring back memories. They have giant ones now.

YuleBeLucky · 02/12/2010 09:07

They are minging! Although I'm glad to see that after 75 odd years, Disney have finally got a black princess.

Honeydragon · 02/12/2010 10:33

Spot

She comes with a proper squidgy belly button, nappy and little proper toes and fingers too, I have inspected purely due to research on dd's part ....honest. (ahem).
