to be a bit surprised at how many people look like they've forgotten their skirt these days?

This thing where people wear leggings, but leggings that really look like tights - and not very long jumpers over the top.

DH is freaked out by it and specifically asked if I had read anything on Mumsnet about it (!) Has anyone else noticed this?? Or is it just where we live that girls are basically walking around with their a*ses hanging out? And in this cold weather too! [old biddy emoticon]

They very much do not, MerrilyDefective.

lovereading · 01/12/2010 01:57

I hate it when they don't cover up as you say with a long top, and the too tight leggins are so stretched across the bottom that you can see the pattern of their underware, ickkkky!

clippityclop · 01/12/2010 02:11

Girl I work with turned up on dress down day in a bum skimming white sleeveless dress and very skinny black leggings with light knickers showing through. Looked just like my dd does when she's getting ready for school and running round in her vest and tights. No Peppa Pig logo though.

Mum2HarryandBen · 01/12/2010 09:18

Clippityclop, funny post!

YANBU!

I have seen this, i know i sound old but im only 23.

I went to see a show with DP the other day and saw teenage gilrs, on a Monday night tottering down the road on very high heels in mini dresses and skirts and vest tops with no coats.

I asked DP to pull over so i could go and put blankets on them and fetch them cocoa and slippers. Grin

Although there are also still children turning up to school in shorts. Hmm

thenightsky · 01/12/2010 09:28

Never mind the young things, I can forgive them. There is a woman who is in her mid to late 40s at my work who thinks this is a good look Shock

She chooses cheap see thro leggings with cheap, thin t-shirt style tops that cling and ride up so her gusset is on show.

I actually said to her in a jokey way 'OOOh you've forgotten your skirt'

DrSeuss · 01/12/2010 09:38

We had one turn up in at school footless tights that she was calling school trousers. She was sent home!

AbsofLatkes · 01/12/2010 09:48

The other day, I saw someone jog past me wearing top, tights (as in tights tights, not rubbish leggings) and big pants. I reckon she'd done what I'd done before (gone to gym and forgotten to take tracky bums) but instead of laming out and having a long shower like I do, she decided to go for a run in her tights instead. In a way, I thougth she deserved recognition for that (albeit confused).

When DP's french friends visit, we have a great time taking them down to Oxford Street on a Saturday night to show them all the freezing girls in tiny skirts. It never fails to shock and amaze.

Mittz · 01/12/2010 09:51

And it is kind of compelling isn't it? Like you shouldn't look but are mysteriously drawn with the disbelief..

shocking....

Mum2HarryandBen · 01/12/2010 10:05

Absoflatkes, how did you keep a straight face?

DrSeuss · 01/12/2010 10:17

BTW, Absoflatkes, Happy Channukah!

AbsofLatkes · 01/12/2010 10:46

She was running away from me, IYSWIM (not out of fear, I hope) so I didn't have to control myself too much

thank you!

DrSeuss · 01/12/2010 10:59

Was assuming you would be celebrating given name. They're potato cakes, aren't they?

AbsofLatkes · 01/12/2010 11:04

Yes. They're delicious fried potato cakes.

Shimmerysilverglitteryfairy · 01/12/2010 11:10

Yes I have noticed this, it appears that tights and jumpers are mainstays with skirts being optional.

duchesse · 01/12/2010 11:15

I love Latkes. Might have to make some soon.

Miggsie · 01/12/2010 11:22

I must say I don't like this "here's the cheeks of my arse" look at all. And I used to wear very short skirts but with tights and those tops that poppered between your legs!!!! And barbed wire round my fanny as well Grin

In -1 degree the look is ridiculous. I'm walking along with a full length wool coat and boots. But it's a dam sexy full length coat. I feel a woman should have an air of mystery...ok, I feel the cold.

I have non too fond memories of living in the North where at minus 5 the girls wore mini skirts and no tights and those lovely fat blotchy legs. Not good, but they seemed to think they were great. And stilettos on icy pavements. This is why women earn less than men, they are always in A&E with broken ankles.

Notevenamouse · 01/12/2010 11:24

I see people all the time wearing Dress tops with nothing on their legs at all. They are meant to be worn with leggings ! There was a mum at our xmas concert who had one on and bent over the row of seats in front and everyone could see her pants. She wasn't even wearing tights its fing freezing outside. Very odd indeed.

AbsofLatkes · 01/12/2010 11:34

Personally, I blame Pixie Lott for all of this. That woman ROUTINELY doesn't wear trousers or skirts, just pants.

Actually thinking on it, didn't Madonna or Sienna Miller start this off? Sienna

Oh look! gofug has now dedicated a whole area of their site to this worrying trend! (and variations thereof).

duchesse · 01/12/2010 17:15

I'm sure there must be quite a lot more we can pin on Pixie Lott? Apart from extra clothes I mean.
