Years ago I saw a TV documentary of him
and said said he told the flunkie who awakened him to eff off.

does it bother you that half of the Royals swear heavily in private?

no

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 29/11/2010 12:49

I couldn't give a toss

and I don't consider 'bad' language particularly rude

bullet234 · 29/11/2010 12:53

I presume you are referring to the Wikileaks revelation (part of the 250,000 cables placed on the site, of which selected ones now appear in five worldwide newspapers). I read a comment on the Guardian's Website concerned with the Wikileaks news that mentioned Prince Andrew as the "rude royal" named in the cables.
As for the swearing, no, it doesn't bother me.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/11/2010 12:54

Is anyone actually suprised by this?

AitchTwoOh · 29/11/2010 12:56

weren't people talking about him last week? a few of the forces wifes came on to say that he is a well-known utter tosser when he visits bases.

Doigthebountyeater · 29/11/2010 12:57

I'm not a bit surprised. When I heard the news early this morning and they only mentioned a royal, I immediately thought of Andrew!

HouseOfBamboo · 29/11/2010 12:58

Swearing per se, not a problem.

Treating people obnoxiously who don't deserve it, no excuse for that.

Pootles2010 · 29/11/2010 12:59

He's duke of York right? If thats right one, he was really nice to me! Was working in cafe that he visited, all managers etc lined up to meet him, they were all told how to address him etc, he decided to come into cafe... where i was manning till on my own. Had no idea what to say so just managed 'er....hello'. Ooops. He was really nice, didn't seem bothered by lack of 'your highness' or whatever you're meant to say Blush

AnyFuleKno · 29/11/2010 13:01

You saw the documentary years ago? It's taken you a while to get round to starting this thread.

BalloonSlayer · 29/11/2010 13:08

Good God someone would have to be considerably more charming than just "not minding that I didn't call him Your Royal Highness" for me to post on an internet forum about what a thoroughly nice bloke he is.

Grin
HecateQueenOfWitches · 29/11/2010 13:15

hmmm.

rich, spoiled, pampered person who was born into a life where they are made to believe they are somehow better than everyone else, and have the right to be waited on hand and foot, and somehow 'own' the people in 'their' country... treats people with contempt.

shocker.

I think the french had the right idea...

I'd be a bit grumpy I expect if I had to keep sorting out Fergie Wink

He doesn't really come across as a charmer though but I don't think any of them do really.

Fortheverylasttime · 29/11/2010 13:19

If wikileaks revealed that the Queen had had a long running affair with Nelson Mandela I wouldn't have been that surprised. Finding out that John Major had been shagging Edwina Currie exploded my surprise function and I have been unshockable/ready to believe anything since.

ShatnersBassoon · 29/11/2010 13:20

Wow, you've been stewing over this for a while.

No, it doesn't bother me that he swears.

GabbyLoggon · 29/11/2010 13:23

Do you swear in front of very young children?

the point is Andrew was swearing at a flunkey who could not answer back...manners
andy boy.

ShatnersBassoon · 29/11/2010 13:26

They have a very young child working as the Prince's waker-upper? Confused

Pootles2010 · 29/11/2010 13:29

Balloon- no I meant he was really nice as well as not mentioning it - had a 5 min chat he was very nice, which was good as I was all flustered!

fedupwithdeployment · 29/11/2010 13:32

I have met him once...and know others who worked with him. Unsurprised. Uninterested. He was really very boring.

AngryBeaver · 29/11/2010 13:34

agree with hecate, off with their heads!!(not literally)

AngryBeaver · 29/11/2010 13:35

okay, maybe one or two literally Wink

gingercat12 · 29/11/2010 13:36

I could not care less about the royals.

fedupofnamechanging · 29/11/2010 13:43

i think that when you are in a position of great priviledge, that you have done nothing to deserve, there is no excuse to be rude to the people around you.

Therefore prince Andrew is a twat and completely undeserving of the wonderful lifestyle he has(at our expense).

I would keep the Queen, but make the rest of them do community service to justify their state support. If the tories can argue that this is good for people on the dole, then it can do the likes of Prince Andrew no harm.

Chil1234 · 29/11/2010 13:49

If, as everyone's so keen to maintain, Royals are 'just like us' then I don't see why we wouldn't expect someone like Prince Andrew to swear in public or private, lose their temper occasionally, be pleasant/unpleasant, charming/rude or any other common character trait.

fedupofnamechanging · 29/11/2010 13:52

if they are just like us though, what's the point of them. they are supposed to be special in order to justify their cost. if they are not, then tourists might as well visit the local postman at Buckingham Palace!
