I'm not suggesting anyone read the synopsis as that's disgusting enough. But I don't know how the government can allow this disgusting film to be released!

Surely this sort of film encourages paedophillia and violent rape.

There are more slaves alive now than there has been before at any time in the history of the world. The majority of this is sex trafficking.

I'm revolted that a film like this can be given even a censored release date (10th)

Any Depictions of sexual positions involving children are illegal in the UK, so if it did show newborn baby rape that will have been cut from the UK version.

It may well be implied, however.

NinkyNonker · 27/11/2010 22:19

I knew I shouldn't have read the Wiki description. I actually feel wronged and vaguely ill, but I am a cinematography wuss.

daisy5678 · 27/11/2010 22:21

Hear hear dittany.

donnie · 27/11/2010 22:21

dittany...as usual I totally agree with you.

mayorquimby · 27/11/2010 22:21

"Vince Vaughn is what 6'6"? Isla Fisher is what 5'?
Hardly comparable IMO"

I presumed the wedding crashers reference was to when the brother had him tied up etc. not sure though, or was it her who tied her up in his sleep?

spidersandglue · 27/11/2010 22:24

I've not seen it, and don't plan to, so it may be cutaways and suggestion, but the synopsis on Wikipedia says that it contains a scene in which a man helps to give birth to a baby and then rapes the baby.

The director calls this newborn porn.

I'm going to throw up now and sorry for bringing it up.

If anyone wants to help me however I'm going to try and take down the revolver facebook page. Revolver is the release agent.

Too right, dittany.

donnie · 27/11/2010 22:25

ochtayaniye - just tell me why you don't want this film to be banned, please. Give your reasons. Because I honestly can't think of any.

spidersandglue · 27/11/2010 22:26

Thank you dittany for your post

I would never watch it but I don't believe it should be banned either.

There has been psychological experiments that suggest computer games and video violence can desensitize people to human suffering. But I believe it's better to tell people and let them decide than endorse the idea of censorship.

DirtyMartini · 27/11/2010 22:32

I thought if I avoidEd the synopsis I would be ok but now the awfulness is on the thread :(

never heard of the film till now

Dittany: I will help fund your steamroller film. You can have my eBay profits as I do not currently have an income :)

adrenalinejunkie · 27/11/2010 22:34

i have seen the synopsis for this film and it made me feel physically sick , i am a huge film buff and have watched films that pushed boundaries and i would normally say if you dont like it dont watch it but this film is going to far. How someone could write a film like this is beyond me as is how could a person act in it . You have my full support in stopping the release of this film .

POFAKKEDDthechair · 27/11/2010 22:38

Dittany, this film is supposed to be [apparently] a metaphor for the depravity that the Serbian people stooped to and were forced to stoop to, and a metaphor for the terrible crimes and bloodshed in the Balkans during the wars. The acts that are referred to in the film are directly related to what actually happened during the wars.

That said, I have not seen the film, and I do not want to. I cannot therefore commit to an opinion on whether this film is just sick and cynical for sick and cynical's sake or if it actually does make a valid point. It sounds absolutely sickening I agree. But also agree with StayFrosty that Hollywood does this kind of stuff, though maybe with more suggestion than enactment, all the time with less reaction.

PamelaFlitton · 27/11/2010 22:39

It's just the stupidest fucking thing. It's trying to break every single taboo and put every wrong thing into one film. What, exactly, is the point. Surely can't have any artistic merit? It just illustrates the stupidity and fucked-upness of some people, the sort who watch videos of executions online.

It just sounds like a shitty lowest common denominator horror film, there are lots out there (many on par with this one). And most sink without a trace.

Banning it, although I can understand why you'd want to, would actually stop it sinking without a trace. More people will see it instead.

Stopping it from getting to the cinemas wont achieve much. Cinema attendance is down, more people wait for DVD, or skip that and download. And it will get downloaded.

What will banning it achieve that you want to happen?

Kaloki · 27/11/2010 22:47

Ps, Dittany I'd watch your film Grin

otchayaniye · 27/11/2010 22:47

donnie I simply don't believe in banning any art form if it doesn't break the law.

There are countless examples of great works of literature that raised this kind of moral outrage. People said at the time of Lolita's publication that they 'we're broad minded, but this is going too far'. I think you'd struggle to find a sensible literature fan seeking to ban that book. There are too many similar examples to mention.

Of course, a film that alludes to newborn rape is not going to go down a storm on mothers' website. As it happens, this film hasn't gone down a storm with anyone.

Of course it's an allegory. A thundering, clunking, badly executed one. Anyone with knowledge of recent Balkan history will be bludgeoned over the head with the cliches (man helps woman give birth, rapes the newborn -- I mean come on, it's so obvious)

I actually am not a fan of the more shocking films and literature out there as often the message and emotion it s trying to draw out isn't strong enough to justify it (see Atomised, or recent films such as Salo or Inside or Irreversible)

I have been raped by a stranger. I have recently had a child. Of course I do not support paedophilia or condone rape.

This film is probably very silly and the director is not talented enough to pull this off.

But ban it? No.

DirtyMartini · 27/11/2010 22:47

Well even if there are valid political points to be made, a hell of a lot of people are going to miss them because the film is so extreme. Which makes me doubt that that is anything more than an excuse.

God knows what the genuine motivation is, hopefully just someone wanting notoriety/ attention-seeking. Depressing, anyway.

Kaloki · 27/11/2010 22:48

Forgot to say, not sure how many cinemas are going to want to show it anyway. It's not exactly the type to draw in large crowds.
