to say this to my dad?

Rang him earlier, he is coming over to visit from Spain on Thursday.
DSS will also be staying, originally wasn't having him next weekend but DH and DSS's mum had to re jiggle things and so the pattern (fortnightly weekend visits) had to change.
Any my dad said "oh so it is a regular thing then?" referring to DSS's stay.
So I replied "Yes dad, because when parents split up generally they make arrangements to ensure children have regular contact with their parents", heavy on the sarcasm.
Background - my dad walked out when I was 12 and I hardly saw him between the age of 12 and 18 (when he moved back home to Spain).

Felt slightly guilty, but then I shouldn't really? Not my fault he was such a lousy dad Sad

Should clarify my dad was in England and moved back to Spain when I was 18.

Was he just asking? Or was it a loaded comment?

If he was just asking, YABU. If he's got some weird view relating to children not needing both their parents, YANBU.

I think I'd have done the same.

Did he get it, or did it go over his head?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/11/2010 15:36

Nevereat - definitely the latter I'm afraid.

Hecate - yep, the sarcasm went right over his head.

Oh dear. :(

As per my previous post, YANBU. Although I wish you were, as I think it would be better all round IYGWIM.

Try not to feel too guilty. I have a crap dad, I know how trying they can be.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 27/11/2010 15:48

You are absolutely right, NeverEat.
It still hurts though Sad We only ever expect the best from our parents.
I love that DH has a brilliant relationship with DSS, even though his parents split up before she even knew she was pg, because at least if anything went wrong with us, DS would still have a great dad!
