My area is spending almost like 3 million
quid on a facility for the homeless.
I think it charity money.

She's far too dim to be a journalist.

YuleBeLucky · 27/11/2010 14:28

'The homeless'

tethersend · 27/11/2010 14:35

Gabby, you're nearly back on form. Well done. I was a little scared yesterday.

Try to engage with other posters a little less, and you'll be back to the Gabby we all know and love. And worry about.

Kaloki · 27/11/2010 15:03

sixpercenttruejedi · 29/11/2010 15:34

do you have a beard?

SparkleRat · 30/11/2010 16:45

My local authority has far more homeless (street or at home) people than they could ever expect to house. People seem unable to find / take on / maintain (read as afford) private tenancies independantly. Slum landlords are making money at the expense of their tenants and the local authority. The local authority no longer owns any housing and only has disposable that nominated to them by Housing Associations. The Housing department in my area (I expect) will be facing cuts and having to rethink it's budget significantly. Cuts to Housing Benefit and new terms relating to social housing mean more evictions will be taking than ever. This is the situation in my area.

GabbyLoggon · 01/12/2010 15:33

sparkle, you have really sparkled. That a good assessment of a situation. Some other poster dont seem to grasp what life is all about. ts all insult and no intellect to them why is thatso? we all went to school .It was compulsory

gabby Most of us do know what life is about, some of us are even facing homelessness ourselves, but most of your posts make no sense whatsoever. I mean your OP could have meant anything. We had no way of knowing if you thought the homeless deserved charity or not? If you thought they'd spent too much or not enough? Or even what you wanted us to discuss?

Try putting a bit more time into your posts and you'll get less insults. Your last couple of posts were actually readable!

GabbyLoggon · 02/12/2010 13:05

I was homeless for a shor while many years ago and it aint much fun....We have beggars like most other cities...and the authorities recently said they were making 15 grand a year. How daft can you get?

OP posts:
MrsVidic · 02/12/2010 13:31

when you say the homeless do you mean rough sleepers, sheltered homeless, or those in semi permanent accomodation? When you say that the government create homelessness, what do you mean? The lack of housing? As i would say that a huge cause of rough sleeping is an appaling childhood and a lack of support when leaving care or drug or alcohol abuse. Complex trauma is also massivlex linked, it is not simple, it is the fault of many things and your over simplistic explanation leads me to believe you could do with researching your material more.

GabbyLoggon · 02/12/2010 13:44

durham durham

I wood need to see some of her writing
Durham

We must not fall into a careerist snobbery trap

Use your own judgement. some critics think JK
Rowling is a poor writer. (she makes dosh)

Business and writing are different things.

North eastern people are not usually snobbish

Are youfrom Yarm, duham?

My husband was homeless as a child, after his mother abandoned him at the age of 12. After he was in a children's home, aged 15 they gave him a flat. He ended up losing it surprise, surprise.

I think a lot more needs to be done to help homeless people. i hope this improves peoples lives FOR GOOD not just for now.

tethersjinglebellend · 02/12/2010 14:05

redflag, that is still happening now. Young people in the care system are abandoned without adequate support.

Of the 6,000 people who leave care on average every year, three-quarters (4,500) will have no educational qualifications (just one out of 100 will make it to university) and within two years half will unemployed, while one in five (1,200) will be homeless.

redflag · 02/12/2010 17:01

I know tethers, i think its actually worse now, as the care system is far more stretched. Luckily DH is a fighter, and managed to pull himself away from that life, many don't!

I think parents of people like DH should be held accountable for what they do.

His mother was a vicious woman, and frankly he is a better person for not being with her, however she didn't care he slept rough as a young teen, could have gone down a path many homeless people do. She didn't give a rats!

GabbyLoggon · 03/12/2010 12:56

I would like to thank you last 3 posters forcontributing
