spanish breastfeeding doll Just heard it mentioned on 'The Now Show' where I was not surprised to hear an overgrown schoolboy take the piss. But I actually don't think it is a bad idea per se, poorly executed and a bit naff in this case perhaps, but my children have breastfed their toys on occasion and I don't think that is a problem. After all it is not considered wrong to bottle feed a toy so why not have a breastfeeding baby doll?

I intend to breastfeed my forthcoming arrival and DS will witness this, presumably. It seems reasonable to me that a child who witnesses bf will try to mimic it, as they do everything else, so why not a doll?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 26/11/2010 19:02

I think it's great.

Children play house or mummies and daddies or whatever they're calling it these days. tidy up, make food, be a parent... they play at it all. So why not breastfeeding?

The only reason I can see is the sexualisation of breasts. There is nothing wrong with a child pretending to nurse a baby. It's the screwed up feelings we have of breasts that's the problem.

Page 3 - great. music videos showing lots of tit - great. Woman breastfeeding ARRGGHH put it away put it away.

It's women as sexual objects for men again. Angry

WTF ARE BREASTS FOOOOOOOOR!!!

thank you very much. Blush

TorcherQueenie · 26/11/2010 19:08

Fab idea. Its better than using bottles anyway as it is more natural, plus perhaps its a step forward in proving breasts are there for more than entertaining men and the next generation might just see that a bit easier than ours.

TorcherQueenie · 26/11/2010 19:11

Also Applauds Hecate

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/11/2010 19:12

Don't hold back Hecate, tell it how it is Grin couldn't agree more. The dolls I find disturbing are those with impossible to achieve in nature lollipop figures much more damaging to a Childs psyche imo.

It's fine. Not particularly keen on the tabard - what's wrong with them just stuffing the doll up their top like most little ones I have seen do. More realistic than feeding them from a top.

tomhardyismydh · 26/11/2010 19:15

i like the idea and its a lovely looking doll. some are so horrible looking.

my neice mimicked bf all the time with her babies, as myself and sister where bf at the time and once my stuffy horrible aunt said to her dont do that its dirty. Hmm

PrematureEjoculation · 26/11/2010 19:16

if you have access to timesonline, this was discussed at length on there - on Alphamumy.

but no yanbu

DD passes me her toys 'Mummy feed it'

theevildead2 · 26/11/2010 19:18

I don't see the point of really, any old doll will work and you don't need a special bra with flowers (assuming I read that right) that wilt and crack. you don't want scare litle girls off it surely?

theevildead2 · 26/11/2010 19:19

Sorry they just wilt! still think its weird

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 26/11/2010 19:19

but if mothers were bfeeding then the children would copy

so really a breastfeeding doll is like a sticky plaster, trying to catch the bull after it has fled

thisisyesterday · 26/11/2010 19:20

i don't think it's inappropriate, there were a few threads on it when it ws first brought out actually wher epeople had a big flap over it

BUT... i don't see the need for a specific breastfeeding doll... you can pretend to breastfeed any doll surely?

ShanahansRevenge · 26/11/2010 20:03

I like it but I don't like the idea of a bra...on MM people get in a huge flap because of shops selling bras for kids....flat ones...and yet this one is great Hmm.

I know that in the context of the doll the bra is promoting what breasts are for....feeding babies...but it's still a bra.
My 6 year old DD would be prancing round in it...I don't let her watch teen shows or anything too old for her...but she still acts old for her age and this would just be an excuse to act like a woman before it's time.
