To complain to PIL about bad taste joke?

My father in law regularly sends me jokes to my phone as texts, some funny, some not so funny but it's no big deal.

Never anything offensive.

Today he sent me an autistic joke, didn't really 'get it' anyway and it wasn't funny but considering that my youngest child has recently been diagnosed with autism and is currently having major problems I think it was really bad taste.

I want to reply and tell him that I wasn't impressed and to consider the situation we are in but OH thinks i'm over-reacting and no harm was meant.

Fair enough he didn't mean to upset me but still think he should be told.

What would you do?

Would you text that back to him just to let him know that you would prefer not to recieve such things in future or leave it and let it slide?

Suppose i'm just pissed as he knows what problems we are having and how much autism has affected all our lifes.

I don't know the details of the joke and I may be completely wrong but maybe he sent it to you because of your ds's diagnosis and thought it would help you - like in a "it's not all bad" kind of way. Of course if the joke was really bad then you would expect him to realise the situation was not appropriate.

I would text him and let him know.

I get bad taste jokes from someone. I always text back and tell them how awful it is.
