Last week it was a pound for pudsey, this week its a pound to wear tartan for st Andrews day, I've got 3 kids and I'm on a budget!

Dont give the money then

The school should not be pressurising your children/you to donate

Or bring it up with the Head

I agree actually. I'm a teacher and I always feel guilty when we send out letters requesting money for stuff, especially the famillies with loads of children. The trouble is, there's too much pressure and not much opportunity to say 'no'. :(

Of course its optional, you don't have to pay a pound if you don't put your child in tartan!

I know - it gets ridiculous coming up to Christmas. I feel very thankful my youngest is at secondary school now and we have none of that this year.

Absurd. But it's just one of those things to add to the budget.

Last week we put in our samaritan box and paid for school photos. This week it is paying for a school trip coming up soon and the first instalment of a school trip next year. Two mufti days in next week to contribute towards the pta fund. This week also it is "new" toys for the christmas fair on one day then the next day it is jars full of things for the tombola. THEN we all have to go to the christmas fair and buy it back!

Money, money, money.

ds1 crafty primary school started charging parents for tickets to the concert the children were doing in the local church. The school were keeping the money and not donating it to the church.

It turned out that the church authorities didn't know that the school were charging and were furious when they found out about it!

They also charge for swimming lessons and then quite happily cancel them, but not give a refund.
